Ok, Ive done a search through here and its all 'sunglasses'. really Im looking for a very very light tint and/or just UV-protection really plus built-in prescrption rather than two monocles standing on their own soo to speak.

Any suggestions? Especially for wider heads

What's your prescription?
What's your budget?

Right: 150 sphere 025 cyl 10 axis
Left: 150 sphere 025 cyl 160 axis

Budget? Need to be insured but I dont care if they dont have a brand name on- they are purely for riding. Only walkers, fellow riders waiting at gates and sheep will see me coming!

I use Rudy Project Hora's. You can buy multiple interchangable prescription lenses, tinted or non, reactalight etc.

specsplace.co.uk from memory.

Very good. Buy the non prescription frames and then buy addon lenses as it works out cheaper.

I found my normal glasses started getting scratched when I wore them for riding plus I felt left out because I didn't look like a giant insect like all the other cyclists.

I don't get that prescription, 150 sphere? Sorry, what does that mean? Most people have numbers below ten don't they? I know mine are.

Oakleys highly recommended here - used for riding and everything where I'd worry about breaking my normal glasses, or them not staying on well enough. (running, football, climbing etc)

Persimmon is a light orange tint - I used to use this, it's good for everything except night riding (although I used them fine with HIDs 😉 )

VR28 is a brownish tint I think?

I've used Straight Jackets and Half Jeckets

Just got my new ones yesterday, Rodenstock wraparound style with curved transition lenses which go extremely clear (clearer then my regular Specsavers scratched standard specs) My prescription is -5.50, -5.75 so Oakley weren't an option. I have a wide head and wanted something with good coverage for wind protection. Very wide field of vision. They stay on well without pinching and cut out the wind rush (tested downhill on the roadie last night) very well.

I was lucky that vision express were selling Oakleys that wrap around etc.

2 for 1 offer etc.

I wonder if glasses direct do anything?

Not everyone uses sports glasses folks-I couldn't use my 'office lab' specs to cycle-they'd snap on a branch but my Oakleys are ok casual and stronger.

Still can't beat sports glasses with prescription lenses and a tint-just get insurance for them.

Those Rodenstock wraparounds look lush!

opticians have always quoted mine in +/- figures under ten in the same manner that midlifecrashes has. I presume the 150 is just a different format of the same figure, does that really mean 1.5 or 15?

Bought mine from my local optician, H. Dickinson in Doncaster. Not cheap, unfortunately, for highish prescription curved transitions. £288. Your lower prescription should work out cheaper, but I should save on vets bills as the guide dog keeps getting her legs caught in the front wheel.

Is it just me? They all seem to need inserts? I found the rudy project NOYZ IMPACTRX on RP's website that have them built in but it seems RP dont do all in ones for the UK market?!

Optilabs offer a fantastic service and a good choice of styles/tints etc.

They are very friendly on the phone too.

I spoke to the RP distributors towards the end of last year and the new ImpactRX stuff was supposed to be coming in before the new year... still not seen anyone selling them yet though.

can't you get disposable contact lenses and use "normal" riding shades?

My prescription is always changing and it would cost be a fortune if I had to get new lenses for my day to day glasses and potentially 2 or 3 sets of lenses for my "sports" glasses

Optilabs - I don't think £145 is expensive compared to other prescription glasses. My every day glasses were double that, and prescription Oakleys are outrageously toppy.

I think you'll have trouble finding unhappy Optilabs customers - the products are very nice quality and very tough.

grievoustim- Ive tried contacts (one eye become itchy so I took them out). I might give them another go to be honest. Then the worlds my oyster glasses-wise.

glenp- understand. You can get cool Oakleys for £200 though- faced with 50quid more I'd go that route!!

Try Schullers Opticians in Lambs Conduit Street, they have a wide selection of prescription sports frames from different manufacturers.

hora, try the monthly 'comfort' lenses, you can keep em in for upto a month they are super nice.

I had some perscription oakley a-wires and they were awesome but then i manned up and started using daily disposable lenses. but i've recently moved onto these monthly comfort lenses and they stay in (even over night), they are made from a better material so feel nicer than the disposables ones. 15.50 per month, well worth a punt.

check out your local specsavers, i use the one up in Sale and they are fine.

The Oakley Straight Jacket Sunglasses are £203 on the H.Dickinson & Co website, which tint did you go for, to get them for £180?

I'd definately say give contacts another try, I hated them at first and I still don't wear them often, but for riding and other active stuff they're a godsend.

I picked up a couple of pair of 'polaroid' branded sunglasses from a local place called 'buy specs direct';
The first ones are 'aviator' style, and cost £30 with polarised lenses
The second pair are more sporty, and I asked them to replace the tinted lens with a clear pair, all for £40.
Like this...

I'd live a pair of Oakley purely for branding, but just can't justify the cost TBH!

DrP but they are clip on prescriptions? Not built-in prescription sunglasses?
