My SID forks are shedding their paint (due to corrosion to fork leg). Can the lowers be removed and then powder coated? If they can, can someone recommend me someone to do it near Leeds?
Got my frame done at CAS Coatings - bd10 / Eccleshill Bradford
Good finish and cheap too (fast turnaround too)
Plenty of places will do em tho - just clean out any oil and grease first (and remove the seals, obviously) and strip the stickers off
Will magnesium alloy lowers take the heat from powder coatings?
Yeah - they're fine
It's the dust from blasting them that may cause problems but I've known people coat their lowers fine
+1 for CAS coatings, the do motorbikes, bikes and ally wheels among other things
You will need to get the bushes replaced after coating, the heat affects them.
Plastikote spray from Wilkos does just as good a job, with less faff. Just prep them properly.
What about replacement stanchion stickers? Rock Shox SID long-travel c. 1999? Do Rock Shox keep old stickers?

No it won't. It will do an ok job if you know what you're doing and prep properly but will not have the finish or durability of a powder coat.
Ok, ok, it will do an ok job, but it will only cost you a few pounds, & the finish is fine once its hardened off.
