Have just taken a new Sonder Broken Road out for a first ride and the Pinion C12 gearbox had terrible shifting. I had to back pedal to get shifts 7/8/9 and 3/4/5 to occur and the gripshift feels very stiff. I enjoyed the ride when the shifting was working, but having to fight the gearchanges wasnt fun. I usually ride SRAM AXS wireless, so appreciate gripshift is different and eased off the power when changng, but dont think this can be usual or the technology wouldnt be as popular.

Does the gearbox need a run in to start shifting more easily? If so how long does it take?

Could the cabling have stretched / need adjustment? Has anyone had to adjust their cables once the bike has bedded in?

Any tips appreciated as Im currently thinking its a bit crap.

Cheers.

Have slackened both shifter cables a bit and that seems to have improved the shifter action when changing gears when stationary- just need the wind and rain to stop before I try it on a ride again.

It takes some getting used to with backing off the power but never had to back pedal to get it to shift even when new, it only done a few 100 miles.   Need to get back on mine and do a proper winter back packing ride.

Much better ride today- key seems to be wait to hear the freewheel sound then change- my “backing off” must have been too little or too short.
