Have come down with lurgy and the weather is frightful right now, so looking at maps and planning for long sunny days (and require assistance of the STW collective).

I've done Gypsy Glen loads from Cardrona and once from Glen House. Looking at the map though, there seems to be potential to come up the track from the end of Manor Valley over towards Megget, turns off at Foulbrig and follow a wall/fence (no track marked) over various slight tops (Redsike Head, Black Law, Black Cleuch Hill, Stake Law) on to Birkscairn Hill, which is the highest point of Gypsy Glen. Anyone know if this is suitable riding terrain, or is it mostly bog? I've walked the Glen Sax round and remember the far end being great after a dry summer, and so rideable, but could be a mess with any moisture.

Also, in a similar area, is there any scope of getting from Foulbrig over to Blackhouse Forest and through towards either the Glen House valley or the Southern Upland Way? Looks possible again, but would be great to hear if anyone has done similar.

You will be pushing some of the megget-manor link I reckon.

You CAN definitely cycle from st Mays loch to manor from black house forest estate which is maybe 1k east of the loch on the a708

I've done the Glen Sax horseshoe and it's a shocker. You can ride down the SUW to St Mary's Loch, along to Megget Water, up the track to Dollar Law then back north along the ridge, over Pykestone. Not sure if the path along the ridge contonues beyond Dead Wife's Grave, there's a track doen to Manor Water if it doesn't.

I’ve ran from Dun Rig to Redsike Head/Foulbrig before. It’s mostly pathless heather bashing, with the occasional old quad bike trail. It’s not a route I would fancy taking a bike on. It would be possible, but not my idea of fun.

Thanks all, much appreciated. Will have to give the SU Way a go in that area, and then maybe have an explore.
