Peak District Footpaths

I started riding in the late nineties and it was always a thing that you’re not supposed to ride on footpaths, obviously most of us ride the odd cheeky one once in a blue moon. I’ve been watching some MTB videos from the Peak District lately and every one they use large sections of footpaths. Are the rules different or is there just a more relaxed attitude in the Peak District? Round my way you just can’t do it without someone sticking their oar in pointing out the error of your ways!

People realised that the rules are bullshit and no one gives a toss anyway

In general terms I would say no to both those. I tend to do less footpath in the Peak than I would in the Lakes. Because they tend to be more crowded and lower and nearer farmers. Eg the chance of meeting the angry landowner on Esk Pike is pretty low.

But the Disley mob I used to ride with occasionally take a very relaxed view to footpaths, but then I think that area has less bolshy ramblers
