You don't pay full price until your subscription renewal time...so you have all features until then. If your renewal date is before the cut-off date in August you renew at your current price. After that date, it is full price.

As I understand it.

Is that how much it is? I got an email from them saying they would hold my price (£4.99 per month) for 3 months - but I'm struggling to find the new price on their site anywhere.

Not sure if you can still do it, but it’s possible to gift a subscription - gifted myself one last year when there was a sale in. Despite having two email addresses I think I used the same email to buy and redeem. Worth checking out...

I really don't know for sure...as said, that is my understanding of it...I've had about 8 emails about it now and that is how I'm taking it.
Basically, I'm 19 quid for the next 12 months. After that I'll be 48 so likely to not renew.

Yes, you will if you're in the top 10

$60 I found out also by clicking to gift a subscription.  Thanks for the advice.

So it seems they are not very good at monetising our data and want us to pay for it. Wonder if any other sites will pop up that replicate the segments and leader board thing.

Yes I got a top ten yesterday but it is less relevant when you don't know the perspective, i.e. if only 11 people had ridden it versus 2,000 people

Garmin Connect has the same feature. And you can upload any gpx file to it.

It does but it isn't as accurate if you try to create a segment using the Garmin tool. All segments I've created work out about 10 seconds shorter as you can't get same start and end points.
I've got the required segments as .fit files but not worked out if I can upload them and use the full thing to create a segment, will try later.

Let us know how you get on. I've tried downloading segments from Strava in both .fit and .gpx format then uploading to Garmin connect to create a segment, but neither have worked, just says upload failed....
Not much joy with the Garmin segment creator to make them from my rides either, as you have found, it doesn't seem accurate.

I wonder if that "lack" of accuracy is actually the opposite and it'll only let you create a segment from positions where you've got an actual GPS record rather than an estimated one.

I’m in the ‘better to pay them some money for the service they are providing rather than have it covered with ads’ camp. Or to have our data used for some other insidious purpose.

I'd agree but my GPS device is set to record every second and as I'm crap, I need a stop before starting so GPS is definitely going to have recorded the start point - I just don't move fast enough to cover the distance lost in 1 second.

Well I'm pretty impressed with the new paid-for version of Strava. The new fitness and freshness screens are helpful and there's a few other things like the Heatmap and routes being able to be used together means I'm happy for my money to go to them. In fact there's so much available now compared to what I had from my previous subscription pack to get heart rate analysis and hook it into Veloviewer that I may just let Veloviewer lapse when it needs renewing in July.

Still a few weeks before I have to decide whether the £10 a year is worth it vs the hassle of having to update everything every few weeks. The only thing I really need Veloviewer for now is the Explorer Square chasing.

Anyone else finding it's pot luck as to whether a map tile will display or not when zooming in/out & panning the map of a ride? Whenever I zoom in to inspect the finer detail of a ride, each zoom level will have different tiles missing. Not a Premium Strava user.

My  experience is that many off-road segment times and leaderboards are irrelevant. When you look at many of the fast times you find that the route they have taken bears no resemblance to the actual route of the segment.

Plus, when trying to create off road segments the limitation on how long the segment must be stops the creation of segments that in reality are technical and take some time to complete.

And, yes... tiles regularly missing on the map.
