Hi chaps and chapesses. First post, be gentle with me! 😊 Just wondering if there are many other mature gentlemen or lady members on here? I'm 54 and came to mountain biking a bit late. Started about 5 or 6 years ago and have only just upgraded from a hard tail to a full sus. I'm pretty rubbish and fall off a lot, but I absolutely love it. Just wish I'd taken it up when I was younger, fitter, new skills were easier to learn and I bounced a bit better!
In only 52. So no we are all youngsters!
I'm 59 and I'm by no means the oldest.
Plenty on here your age or older - me for one, I’m a lot older, although I have been riding for forty years...
57 here.
54? A mere Bairn! [sorry, my wife's a Geordie and it seems to have corrupted my English]
Welcome fella and better to start your mtb career later in life than not at all! I turn 50 next month and have just bought (another) steel hardtail to mark the occasion. You’re in good company and can look forward to many years of shredding I reckon. I shared an uplift van in Finale this summer with two German guys both of whom were north of seventy and were still super stoked to be riding such great trails. Ride safe and enjoy the forum, it’s a wealth of knowledge.

Pretty much every second poster.
I don't often see people my age on the trails, hence the post but it is reassuring to know you are out there somewhere!
Just turned 65 here. Started MTB about 6 years ago. Like you, I'm a bit rubbish, but I like poodling along in nice scenery with the occasional bit of light gnarr to add interest.
' if there are many other mature gentlemen or lady members on here' there's no young people on here. Or mountain bikers.
Welcome, good to hear your enjoying the MTB buzz
58th birthday last month and cycling more than ever. Where are you based op?

Easy mistake to make. I'm 60 but only look 40.
Some inspiring and reassuring replies, thanks. I look forward to the scent of Werther's originals wafting along the trails 😀

Moved to Ludlow in Shropshire 3 years ago. Still exploring but luckily I have some great stuff on my doorstep and a little further afield.
63 here, if you are anywhere near Quantocks Mendips and fancy a pootle sometime give me a shout

I know (or knew) it well. Mortimer Forest still being ridden in or have they ghettoised everyone in Bringewood?
I'm 50 next week
I am a mere child at 49.
I'm 56 and look a lot younger than Scotroutes :o)
I have the birth certificate of a 33 year old, but the body of a 70 year old if that helps? Mind of a 12 year old too, mind.
I’m coming up to 59
Greetings , 55 and counting
Another 54 year old here.

I am slowly exploring Mortimer and have found some really fun stuff. Some is a bit overgrown but some looks regularly ridden. I don't know anyone locally who rides, so it's all a bit of trial and error and pouring over a map and trail forks. I do see a few other bikes up there. I've not explored Bringewood yet, but I know there is supposed to be quite a bit there. If anyone local who doesn't mind me slowing them down fancies showing me round, I'd be very grateful! I had my first trip up on the Long Mynnd recently and did Minton Batch which was great fun, I will be going back there to look at some of the other descents soon. Been to Hopton a few times but other than that, I mostly do trail centres, Llandegla, Cannock and FOD are all just over an hour's drive from me.
Coming up to 63 here so another old geezer-the scent of Werthers is the least of your worries!

I can imagine 😂
50 this week. Shit.
Some awesome stuff at Mortimer and Bringewood. Sadly Bringewood has been pretty decimated by felling recently and I think they go to Mortimer side at some point too. Shame, but trails will rise again.
45 here. Babe in arms innit.
50 this week. Shit.
'snot that bad. The world expects you to be a grumpy old man, you can get away with murder 🙂
I'm 21 with 35 years experience of being 21.
I'm an official OAP, Old Awful Pootler
51 here in January. Welcome to the club..
You're only as old as the man you feel...
50. I only come here to make myself feel young!!😂
Another 60+ but been “off-road” biking for over 30 of those years
Should we organise an over 60s STW weekend next year????
Lakes or Peaks??
Should we organise an over 60s STW weekend next year????
Only if there's a slow old man category.
41 here, basically a child compared to most of the forum. Welcome OP, what bike are you riding?

Make it over 55s and I'm in.
Most definitely.
Lakes = bike a few miles to a cafe, bike some more to a pub and repeat......
“Welcome OP”
Is that “welcome original poster”
Or
“Welcome Old Person”.....
I'm mature, but I'm no gentleman!
Not a lady either to pre-empt the next post.

Thanks for the welcome👍 Until recently, a 2013 specialized rock hopper hard tail that was used and abused and had everything but the frame replaced. I have just bought a 2018 Giant Trance 2. Early days, but I absolutely love it it so far, pedals up hills much better than I expected and flatters my poor riding when things get a bit rowdy.
51, feel 101 as I'm mysteriously broken atm
Welcome youngster, 55 here but easily pass for 60. I'm sure we're below average STW age!
I'm 62, feel like 82 but act like 22. Started riding at 32.
51, feel 101 as I’m mysteriously broken atm
Hope you're back in action soon 👍
52 and look a load younger than Scotroutes 😀.... oh, hang on, I am !
Ooh, christky, I'm glad I don't fall off as much as I did when I started, like back in the 90s. But I am quite young at 24. Plus a few decade, like. OP, you're old enough to be my dad! If my dad was the same age as me.
52 and look a load younger than Scotroutes
Aye, right ye are. 😂
70 in April and still enjoying the trails. Haven't managed enough in 2018, planning for 2019 now.

Respect! Hope I am still getting out there when I'm 70. Wishing you a great year of riding in 2019.
52 in a couple of weeks. Been riding proper MTB now for about 6 years. Love it. Out 2-3 times a week, every week. Ride with a great group of young lads who push me well past my limits. I often find myself doing things and thinking I ought not to 🙂 My brother has also taken it up and he is 2 year older than me!
Lately I also find myself calling checkout girls in the supermarket things like sweetheart/love/darling so I guess I must be getting really old!!
I was born same year as Lady Di, Barack Obama, Jill Dando and Suzanne Dando to name a few, 57 just like Heinz
64 soon, hoping to do the Jennride again (well most of it) next year, even the odd MNPR, started riding again 10 years ago after a 30 year layoff, usual reasons work, marriage an kids.
56 - going on 12
Only been riding MTB. for about 10 years, but also wish I'd started earlier.
70 going on 23 cant stop or I will die.
I just ride a bit slower and it hurts more when I fall off. I am supposed to wear knee and elbow protectors after the last big off but every now and then you come to a descent which you just have to throw yourself down.
Makes me feel alive.
54 in a few weeks time.
Welcome 😎
You are only an hour from Rhayader. Give us a shout in a few weeks and we can arrange a spin out over this way.

Sounds fun, thanks. I may take you up on that in the NY.
48 & a bit of a physical mess . But hey😀. I'm still here. Which surprises quite a few people, including myself
Just turned 50... and after reading this thread now feel pretty young! Lol
63 and still riding every week.
Another one coming up for 63, still do the odd event but set my sights on a couple of long distance trails and a coast to coast for 2019.
Welcome you may have just dropped the average a few years which won’t help me @57😩
55 here , out every day for the two weeks I'm home in a month. It keeps me young, never had a bad bike ride yet , except for the ones that ended at the hospital.....
I'm younger and better looking than scotroutes.
Two of those assertions may be wrong... 🙂
😂 I’m in my mid forties and I’d assumed most of STW was a similar age from the posts. Now I find I’m one of the kids!
I'm taller than Scotroutes despite being younger
You’re only as old as the man you feel…
I don't go out of my way to feel any men and going by this thread, I'm a young whippersnapper at the age of 45. 😮
54 is not old on this forum. Would guess the average age of poster is around 45+ ?
I am 50 and have been obsessed with riding bikes since I was 5.
I'm in my late 40's(a lady never reveals her age) but look much worse than Scotroutes does.
65 years young, mental age somewhat younger, been riding for many years off and on. Love the riding, social and banter.
im 28, get my stabilizers off soon 😀
70 in April and still enjoying the trails. Haven’t managed enough in 2018, planning for 2019 now.
A mere youngster. I'm 70 in March. Having a second life on the bike. Previously a Nat Champ standard tester then mtb guy. A spell as a couch potato waiting for a new knee (10 years - thanks NHS) made me determined to get out again. Road only now, so trying to decide should I do the Staveley Spring Sportive the day after my birthday and see how I fit into my new age group, or do my own 70 @ 70 round here.
If any other oldies fancy a road ride somewhere NW England then just holler.
Should we organise an over 60s STW weekend next year????
Lakes or Peaks??
Could be up for that. Can we have nice weather please?
Just turned 65. Been a club cyclist for 43 years and mountain biking for 32. Try to ride 5 days a week, although that's nearer 3 at the moment in the winter and some on Zwift. Don't do much racing nowadays but look for other challenges like bike packing and gravel rides in Europe. Going out on the single speed this morning if it ever stops raining!
Welcome to the forum. I'm turning 42 on Sunday. Had to have a break from mtbing for a few years due to reasons known to everyone, had a spin out the other day and reignited my spark. My Stiffee is awesome!
My Stiffee is awesome!

There are loads. Bike50 (in reality mostly over 65) in Surrey has about 200 people registered.
Singletrack article about some of them here
