Most new dad queries are posted at 4am I thought ?

Bike carrier is dependent on when they can support their head safely I think ....

Congratulations! Great isn't it? ๐Ÿ™‚

Bike carrier when she can support her head (and her head in a helmet, I'd suggest) and then balance bike as soon as she can fit on one! ๐Ÿ™‚

Already got the balance bike lined up for mine. Only problem is, none of my bikes will take a rack mounted carrier. Oh no.....that means I need to buy a nice new bike! (Ponders a Whyte 19 steel....)

As above, once they can support their own head safely. So that's around August so hopefully a lot warmer by then 8)

Congrats too

Congratulations!

Bike of her own - probably 2 years upwards, maybe a bit earlier.
Carrier - I'd go for mid mounted, we have a weeride also and both love/loved it. Wait until she can sit up for a little while and support her head well. I found a good rule of thumb to be when they can withstand a vigorous towelling of the hair after the bath. Be careful though, they tire quickly.
Ahead of yourself - nothing wrong with being prepared!

Congrats and well done.

Ours had a little trike at 1 year (but she never used it because she was too small. By the time she had grown into it physically she had grown out of it mentally).

I got her a scooter (mini-micro) at 17 months, she likes it and can do it when the fancy takes her.

We're getting her a 'Tinybike' for Xmas (20 months).

You are going a bit quick.

Bear in mind tiny-ones' concentration spans are very short so they don't stick with anything yet. (No doubt I will be contradicted on that).

And again, congrats and *****y well done.

Chariot
From 3-4 months on gentle offroad with the right accessories.
From birth as a push chair on smooth with the right accessories.

Most bike seat type carriers suggest 1 year old.

Bike trailers with baby sling from something between 3 and 6 months for proper rides - we'd done 40 milers before she was one. Really recommend them if you have space to keep it.

Whatever you use, use it regularly and they are more likely to like it.

Balance bike 18 months is realistic, although most don't learn till a bit later (20-21 months here).

Flashy - Personally I'd avoid anything rear mounted. We've used mid-mounted for our two - youngest is on a weeride and eldest a LOCT (basically a seat and footpegs, he holds onto the bars) when he's not on his own balance bike. Much more engaging and the bike feels more balanced.

I tried the eldest in a rear mounted (not rack) Hamax when the youngest went into the weeride and we both hated it. He was bored senseless and the bike handled horribly. Managed to find a LOCT which we both love. It's great to see/feel him actually leaning with the bike etc. Helped him a lot with the balance bike I think.

If you really want to get out with them soon then it's got to be a trailer - Chariot here and we were out from about 3 months onwards. Expensive, but probably one of the best kit investments I've made!

Chariot with sling until they can hold their head up comfortably.

Best bike accessory I've ever bought.

I've got hold of a LOCT seat for junior. He's a bit small for it and its a bit cold so I reckon by spring he should be good to go.

Hi Simon

didn't realise you'd delivered her yourself when I last emailed ... well done!
don't think your getting ahead of yourself ... my daughters 21 and it comes up very quickly and needs budgeting for in a big way ๐Ÿ˜•

When can she get a bike of her own and what type is best ?

... turns into Dad, can I have a car? ... + cost of any repairs ... oh and insurance ... then gone are the days of the '1st car fixer upper'
a Clio then a Mini

bless her ๐Ÿ™„

.... but still remember that first second she popped out and wouldn't change a thing ... congrats again

ps ... I can probably pick the Rocky up this weekend if its easier .. drop me an email when you get the chance!

What's your point? He's just had a baby and is understandably very chuffed.

I'd go for the Baby Bivvy if it's a September to Feb baby as it's sungglier for them and in Spring they can probably go into the booster seat.

I use a rear seat and it's unstable on the bike but does the job when they are older or another one comes along...

We used a Croozer trailer from 3 months, with the Weber baby seat attachment. Keep your speed down and mind the potholes until jr has some strength in her neck.

Congratulations!

Well done to you and the new mummy!

Just to say, don't put them in a seat too early, I think they say about 9 months on the Dutch ones I had. My mum once told me a story where parents put their baby in a (front mounted) seat too early. They thought the baby had fallen asleep during the ride, but it had in fact died! Not sure when this happened, was enough to make me wait though.

Time will soon pass, my oldest has just started high school, seems like yesterday he was keeping me awake all night!

Simone

Congrats and chapeau. Not cycling but my son was born end Jan 2000, and I still cherish the memories of Saturday mornings when he was 2-3 weeks old, and Mum was still asleep. I'd put him in the babybjorn and zip it and him into an extra large fleece bought for the purpose, and we'd go for a walk. He'd mostly sleep, but it was still great.

He now has bigger hands and feet than me, and is only a few cm shorter.
