Took my 456 out for a hack tonight and spent most of the ride sorting the chain out as no matter what I tried, I can't get the front mech position right. It either rubs the chain, or won't shit, or keep throwing the chain off either side.
It's an xtr mech and has been perfect on my previous 3 ring setup.
I really like the ratios of the duo, but if I can't get it to work properly i may end up having to take it off and going back to 3 rings.
more skillz required.
just remember you're setting a 3 ring mech that has a range around the second position as a two ring mech that shifts around half way between. Stop screws will be needed and commit to either 2,3 or 1,2 position.

Hi - I have two deo setups, both with xtr shifters and one an xtr front mech and one an xt.
It is possible - you have to play with the grub screws and which shifter position you lock out - it's been a while since I did mine.
I find the 27/40 combo is excellent.
No probs here. Which of the 'clicks' are you using to shift up?
I've used the first 2 positions, as I've you were shifting between granny and middle.
Judging by the state of my legs after the first ride, I've still got a lot to learn about using the gear ratios better, although I did manage a shitty climb that normally I granny up. I guess it's like singlespeed, it's amazing what you can climb rather than endure the shame of walking!!
I had a duo and the shifting was rubbish. Got rid of it in the end.
Just run a double and bash these days, on Shimano rings. I don't go near Middleburn rings any more.
Just to balance the argument I've got a Middleburn 29/42t with an XTR mech. Shifts really well. And I really rate Middleburn rings.
I think front mech adjustment is rarely done well, judging by the problems some people have.
I use the outer two settings, btw.
I have a Duo set up and use XO gripshifts - partly because they're light but also because you can trim the front mech perfectly. I find the shifting to be fine if not as slick as the big S.
Well I changed to the middle to big clicks on the shifter, and spent a while setting up the limit screws, and it's definately a lot better. Looking at the shape of the cage, I'm wondering if it's worth trying to get a SRAM 2 x 10 specific front mech?
