Got some Ikons on a bike currently, feel like I want a little extra grip in the loose stuff. Are Rocket Ron's any grippier, or would I need to go for Nobby Nic's or similar to significantly up the grip level?

Ta.

Rons - yes.

But if you are happy with maxxis why don't you try an ardent race? They work well with the ikon on the rear.

Or a barzo/mezcal combo?

Using both regularly, there isn't much between them, but unexpectedly I find Rons to have both better rolling resistance, and better grip.

Cheers. Ardent race didn't really inspire me with confidence on the front in loose gravel, but I'll try one if I can get hold of one. Sounds like a set of Rockets might be a useful change as well.

Continental X-King would be an option as well.

I find Rons have the edge over Ardent Races is softer conditions as they're a bit more toothy but I like Races for a dry conditions front tyre. Rons seem to be faster rolling c/w the Race.

Wear rate on the Ron is much improved since Schwalbe have gone down the Addix route. Personally I'd go for the Speedgrip on the front (blue) and Speed (red) on the back as I've found the red on the front to be lacking.  https://singletrackworld.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/review-schwalbe-rocket-ron-addix-speed-fast-xc-tyres-that-last/

Rons likely have bigger volume too.
