Ok, this is a silly question... but I can't find an answer to it! When you get a fork with a maxle, this replaces your existing axle in the wheel right? What about the cones and bearings in the wheel? Do they just thread on the new axle? Is a maxle threaded? Or does it need a whole new hub? Any beginner advice welcome!

Thanks

You need a specific Maxle hub or a conversion kit. If your hub has cups and cones then the chances are it will not be possible to get a conversion kit.

What hubs are they? Not all can be converted, but some can. Sounds like you've bought a fork that you can't use with your current wheel though judging by talk of existing axle and cones and that.

No, it doesn't. You need a hub with a hollow axle. The Maxle goes through this axle.

couldn't find one for a fork so you'll have to make do with this:

Hmm. Thanks for the responses. Haven't bought forks yet (fortunately) but just checking out options. Am I the only one who finds this non compatability slightly annoying?!

I dont think Gentullio (Tullio) Campagnolo was considering the requirements of long travel suspension forks when he patented the quick release skewer in 1930 (the quick-release skewer that became the standard for the industry, a design as still used today).

There are also different diameters eg 20 mm & 15mm
I am getting 20mm Sektors for which I will need a wheel

There's not compatible, and there's different. QR and Bolt through are just different.
