Hi All,

Planning an early ride saturday probably getting to where ever we ride for 8am (need to be back home in warwick for 1pm).

I had Malvern in mind but its no doubt going to be full of walkers from 10am. Found plenty of decent looking routes for long Mynd too so thinking that might be better?

Any thoughts on long mynd? Or alternatives an hour or so from warwick, not cannock though the new stuff is opening and it will be rammed!

Joe

Long Mynd is really good, but apparently when its sunny it attracts loads of walkers as well. The Minton Batch descent and the one back into Church Stretton are awesome though, so fast.

Getting to Malvern early is no guarantee of avoiding the walkers.
Even ramblers don't like ramblers and they will be there at dawn to avoid themselves.

I'd stay away from Malvern on a sunny weekend, but again would assume LM would be busy too, though at least there it's a bigger space.. How's about the Wyre forest?

Avoid Malvern the sun will be shining and the anti-bike / dog brigade will be out in full force - hell the Conservators don't like people using walking on the hills!!

Wyre you'll need a guide, so Long Mynd is your place IMO.

Long Mynd will be fine, plenty of space for everyone, don't go flying around corners in case someone is coming the other way, climb up either 'The Batch' (not Minton) or Cardingmill, and you may even have the walkers encouraging you onwards. Avoid the footpaths on a Saturday morning (Ashes Hollow and Townbrook).

I know, went there once for a guided tour, think I could only just remember the route out of the Car Park now!!

Must go back there soon. (Pass out permitting) 😐

Well a 630am start this morning got us to Long Mynd in time to pretty much not see a soul the whole way round. 🙂

Had a cracking day out, its a great place to go. Up through carding mill is a big challenge on the lungs and down minton batch is brilliant fast single track. The rest is just great views and really nice XC ride with one or two fast down hills. Not mega technical but really enjoyable.

I recommend it for anyone who normally only rides trail centers.
