No really, bear with me.
Almost time for a new bike for the sprogs and as ever I'm torn between the two uses we want it for.ย The big un likes stuff like this:
He cycles almost everywhere are a constant 12mph.ย Uphill, along and even downhill.ย His favourite bit of local trail is the zig zag cave climb at the end of Llandegla, which he cleans every time.ย But point him downhill and the brakes come on and he slowly descends in a calm and slow manner.
The wean on the other hand hasn't yet cleaned Cave Climb, and generally dislikes uphill.ย He much prefers lifts assisted and some fat air:
Neither of them weighs much more than 5 stone and the components and bits on the average adult gnarr bike are complete overkill.ย What I'm hoping to find is a bike with lightish weight components that doesn't weigh half what they do, but with geometry that allows the oik to really go for it when he inherits it in 3 years time.
We generally ride Llandegla, Cannock, TNF, with occasional trips to Dalby and the Lakes.ย Even more occasionally we'll do something big like the WHW, Tignes in summer and are booked to Finale in Autumn.ย So we want something that's good for XC and not too heavy, but also good on the downs.
I was pondering a Cube Stereo HPA 140 SL or a Canyon Neuron.
The Cube seems nice but has godawfu Avid Brakes.ย The Canyon OTOH has Shimano.
Anyone ridden either, got any suggestions (apart from the obvious one)
cheers
