I heard the Funicular might be down for maintenance during the summer season. Anyone local know anything about it. Be a shame as all the interesting stuff ends up on the bottom road so you need it to get back up.
Also heard the transarc might be down as well?
Any info gratefully received. Should i go to morzine instead?

Well I hope not as we're booked in with White Room!

With whiteroom as well. Not worried as they've got plenty to entertain us even if the funicular is out of order.

It was shut last year due to problems, replacement buses ran every 20 minutes and had bike trailers but it's slower, more faff, difficult at busy times etc.
It's run all winter ok but that might just be because they care more. You could ask the tourist office if they have any info.

I'd guess they might run a shuttle if it is? It's iirc about 25 minutes by road, not too bad.

Was out with White Room last year when the funicular was shut, no issue there at all - didn't miss it in the slightest 🙂 Would be more of a problem if you were staying in Bourg St Maurice and expecting to use it every day as the bus replacement was rubbish.

No idea if it's been fixed, but I think the problem was the expansion gaps aren't big enough to cope with summer temperatures they see now and they were afraid the rails would buckle. Obviously not an issue in winter but will need fixing before it can run in summer again.

@flatpack that was one of the stories around, also column foundations failing and many more! No one seemed to have a proper answer.

sort of removes the difficulty of doing black8 and beating the train/bus back to the station though.

Ah balls, that's not going to be good. Literally just booked 2 weeks in the campsite. Transarc isn't the biggest issue as there's a decent set of trails to drop you into it from Axe wound, slower but good riding, but a bus up to 1600 will suck balls.

Funi has been shut for ages. They refurbished the track, the cars and then realised the structure was knackered (someone suggested they failed to account for the increase in temperature differences due to global warming). A mate of mine was out there last summer and it made no difference at all the the white room’s great programme.

Latest update from the Mairie du Bourg today, Funi closed this summer and likely next I think as shows work 2020-23. Bad times!

Thread bump! If the the Transarc is shut, how do you get up to the trails above 1950? Or is it just the bottom section from 1800 to the mid station?

Hopefully the trans arc isn’t shut… Funi being shut will be bad enough.

Transarc is shut next year from the latest information I've heard, there will be another lift operating but it's not as high/good. Funi will be shut next summer too.

The whole Transarc? Or just the bottom.. If its just the bottom I wonder if Charmettoger will be used instead - if its the whole Transarc then what will they do about 2600 access?

I've just heard from someone down there who went in and asked, that the funi is out this year, but not the Transarc. The whole transarc is going to be replaced but not until next year.....

Sounds strange, I've never thought of it been a particularly old or over-crowded lift. Never been during a holiday week though, at peak times.
