Have put my name down for a charity LEJOG for march next year but I'm not really sure what bike to take. I own an inbred all set up for XC, would it be possible to change some components on this for a few hundred quid to make it suitable for LEJOG, like some drop bars (can you run drop bars on an inbred?), road tires etc? Or would it make more sense to by a road bike for ~£500 on the cycle to work scheme and just do it on that? I know its obviously going to be a compromise mainly regarding how much money I have but I'm more interested to know if doing it on an inbred will simply the make the whole experience miserable? And if it would be ok any advice on mods to the bike for the trip would be super helpful.
cheers guys
are you in a group? what are the others riding? are you of similar fitness.
I would have thought bar ends and slick tyres might be enough.
to go down the drop bar route and then buy sti levers you'd almost be into second hand road bike territory. (stis are mega expensive)
hydralic discs - need to change them to cable for the STIs as well.
Yeah bar ends, slick tyres, rigid carbon fork
Slicks and flat bars with bar ends should be enough.
You might want to fit a smaller cassette and/or bigger chainrings (not sure of c'ring clearance on an Inbred), or the MTB gearing might be fine.
A bunch of 14 year old non-cyclists from town did it the other year. You'll be fine.
I had a 26/36/48 chainset on my Inbred for a while (with RC31's, slicks, bar-ends etc) and the clearance on the inner ring was pretty tight but it did work.
I was at Cape Wrath a couple of years back and a chap had cycled from Lands End on a Brompton.
on a brompton??? I feel ashamed for even asking this now I know that! inbred it is! 🙂
