are the remotes any good on ks's posts? ive got the lever version at the mo and the remote kit is 50quid odd, but is it as cheap and nasty as the other mechniacal remote kits (reverb one is amazing!)

just wondered if its easy to use and whether its sticks, or is smooth etc?

It ok made, and is quite user friendly. Where the remote falls down however is where it attaches to the seat. basically the lever gets crud in it and won't operate correctly. plenty of maintenance of this part required

I agree with tpbiker....the remote bit at the post is rubbish and therefore makes the lever at the bars feel pants. Im going to go for a thumb shifter / other remote from different post to see if it feels better.

I made a crud guard from a small bit of inner tube and zip tied it around the end of the cable outer. it sort of fans out up under the seat and stops the crap from getting in under the rocker arm/linkage thing on top of the post. I saw a picture of one that someone else had made somewhere. it works perfectly and I haven't had any problems since.

Pics or it didn't happen.

I have a KS Lev, with the cable entering the post at a fixed point above the seatpost clamp, so no issues on the seatpost end.

The bar mounted lever is well made, and functions smoothly. The split clamp makes installation easy. There is no sealing whatsoever; so dirt can enter the cable or pivot. However, all of the other remote levers that I have seen (except for the hydraulic Reverb) are the same. It is easy to remove the lever from the bar mount if it needed cleaning or lube or whatever. It uses a standard shift cable and housing, so replacement would not be expensive.

The dropper post is the best upgrade that I ever made to the bike, and the remote makes it easy to use. Having tried the remote version, I can't imagine using it with a lever under the saddle.

Edit: Oh, and KS do a mud boot, too boot

Mine has clogged up at both ends but it took a long time to happen- I wouldn't consider it at all unreasonable or problematic, easy enough to sort too.

Bar lever is nice, could maybe do with a little more leverage and the cable exit is a little clumsy but that's just being picky- it looks decent and it works. I've never used the lock-on function though, just puts it in a daft place IME.

JoeG, where did you get the lev from? Been looking for a long 31.6 but can't find them anywhere yet.

I find the release nipple cuts into the release arm and when filled with crap doesnt release well so i emri paper the arms curve down and its fine for a month or so.- Crap design

Just changed the cables after 6 months of wetness and its back to being out the box.

Keep on top of maintenance and you will happy.

Same as everyone else, I had problems with grit getting between the release nipple and the release lever. Even when clean, I found there was a fair bit of friction between them as they're both metal. When the remote lever is pressed, the release lever slides over the nipple, causing friction. I sorted this by putting a piece of hard plastic between the nipple and lever, and it's now much smoother.

I emailed Superstars last night about the "mud boot" and got a reply back today saying they had added it to their website. I expect it will take a few days as they have to get some stock in from Supernatural but here's the link anyway.
