Hi, Xmas is looming and both my both would like BMxs to play on down the dirt jumps one is 7 other is 10.
Iv been given a budget of £100 each off the grandparents, can I have some recommendations please - I don’t just want to get them something to cheap as they love there riding and have good mountain bikes so want to try and follow suit?
Have a look second hand.loads of great condition bikes for sale.the cheaper end bmx bikes from decent brands will be fine and tend to come up smaller.so for kids.id look at gumtree.reasonable bmx bikes in halfords start at 160.have a look at gt mongoose voodoo and many other brands.loads out there.they do not hold their value.skme will be thrashed.some unused.size is determined by top top length.you might need to up your budget if you include a service and new chain.
You could look online for clearance deals.bit of a lazy post tbh unless you want advice on the correct size bmx.if so you need to state the height of the kids too and although cheaper bmx bikes will probably fit them the 7 year old might need 14 inch wheels.do not be tempted by cheap and nasty badly branded bmx bikes.youve got winstanleys bmx Alan's bmx and others.new I'd say mongoose switch from halfords which is 180.you can spread the cost.
Not 14 inch wheels but 16 inch wheels might be better for the young un.
£100 for a decent bmx means looking at 2nd hand
Look for bikes from well known bmx companies who make cheap completes
Look for We The people, Kink, Fit Bike Co
Mafia bikes are cheap new (around £240) so can be had 2nd hand cheap but they are not the best bikes
Obviously buying 2nd hand means they will be scratched or need some minor work
Also get them to sit on some bikes to check sizing, the 7 year old will prob need a 18in bmx, the 10 year old should be ok on a 20in one
Been riding bmx for 35 years now, its the best way to learn bike handling and skills especially if you get in to Flatland as those skills are transferable on to all types of bikes
You'll be looking at second hand at £100 to get anything useable.
As mentioned already look at 18" wheels for the youngest.
What sort of riding will they be doing, flatland,in the skatepark or racing.
We have a great BMX track with a good club in Milton Keynes, it maybe worth seeing if there is a club/track in your area they are great for the kids to learn skills etc and might be better for resourcing bikes.
