Get iTunes on your computer and connect your iPod to the computer.
You will get help along the way from iTunes.

Ah Ha! We have ignition. Itunes installed & it 'lights up'! Anyway, I got a one of them docking pod things, so when I get to Goa I can still charge it up (depending on the reliability of the Indian electric system, kept going off last time & we had to buy torches)
