Pretty much as it says, really. What models/manufacturer are out there?
Currently on an 20" 853 Inbred with 26" XTR tubeless (I have no intention of changing wheels) and 1600g of Rock Shox up front.
Not averse to carbon, would like sliding drop outs rather than having to run a sprung tensioner.

I know you don't want to change wheels, but ss seems to make even more sense on a 29er...

Niner Air9 RDO with RDO rigid fork. Mine comes out at 14lbs.

Scandal? Same handling as your Bred, but much lighter. Mine was a 1st gen, and absolutely lovely frame- haven't ridden the later ones.
Whippet? It's just a placky version of your Inbred. Mine is 22lbs without any special effort to build up light (SIDs, XT wheels, Deore brakes and SLX cranks). Love mine.
I have a Scandal with horizontal dropouts. It's a rocket, well it would be with someone other than me on it. Very comfy and assured when descending.

Find an Ibis Tranny. Do it right and it can be 18lb or so.

Scabby XTR M970 can be a good one- not expensive, still pretty light even in these days of carbon, strong and stiff. Only pain in the bum is the special tool you need to remove them.
+1 for M970, or any shimano cranks.
I've some FSA carbon cranks on my road bike, they feel different, on the one hand more efficient/stiffer, on the other more absorbent of vibration. not sure how much of an advantage they are, they're the same weight as their shimano alloy equivalent.
If you like your 853 steel there's a few SIR.9's on mtbr that claim to have gone under 20lbs.
