I've had a few instances of chain drop lately, plus my swingarm makes a heck of a racket when riding along any surface that isn't smooth.

On the face of it, a chain device would appear to be the way forward, however my AM frame doesn't have ISCG mounts, so I have the following questions:

In the absence of frame mounts, will the external BB keep one in place?

Secondly, I run two/three rings up front on my AM bike. Is this likely to cause a problem.

Thirdly, what effect if any does a chain device have on a bike's pedalling efficiency?

Don't know about ones that work for 3 rings but another thread just reminded me of the dangler: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/news/article/specialized-2012-mountain-bikes-first-look-30937

any use?

I did see that thread, it motivated me to post this one.

My AM bike is a Marin Wolf Ridge and thus the chunky swingarm won't take a Dangler unfortunately.

knock up something like the bionicon?

What about getting a chain catcher - look at the K-Edge products and a decent chunky chain stay protector?

Blackspire stinger for dual front, mounted behind bb cup instead of spacer
