Garmin 800 here so not sure what the differences are but when I tried to navigate routes planned in GC they never worked. Routes planned with ridewithgps worked perfectly tho. I'd recommend checking out the how to guides on both ridewithgps and DC rainmaker (you'll have to google I'm on mobile) but both make it quite clear how to do it (garmins are not the most intuitive otherwise)

Plot mine on Ridewithgps also, export as Tcx and drop it into the "new files" folder on your Garmin.

On ride day select "do course" and load the route. You can navigate using the breadcrumb trail with some handy direction hints popping up depending on the cue points when you created the route.

They're generally created automatically in Ridewithgps but you can probably add your own (haven't tried this personally).

Worth noting that importing gpx files from other sources will not (in my experience) contain cue points.
