I've got an intermittent knocking that I think is coming from the drive train of my full suss. It happens when really putting the power down to winch up hills at about 2 o clock on the drive side pedal stroke, but it doesn't happen all the time.

I've greased and tightened all my pivots, serviced and greased my bottom bracket and pedal axles. Checked my chainring is tight, checked that my derailleur hanger and derailleur are tight, greased and serviced my hubs, torqued up my cassette.

Still knocking. Only thing I can think left is chainline. I do have "too small" a front chainring for my 10-51 tooth cassette, but that hasn't been a problem on previous bikes.

I'm stumped. Any ideas?

How do you know this? I did think of that, but dismissed it. What's the scoop?

I had it with a seatpost as well.  Honking on the pedals you get a tiny bit of frame flex and seatpost flex and the seatpost was moving back and forwards in the frame hitting the front and rear of the seattube slightly undersized seatpost or oversized seatube

seeing as you asked.

For weeks had an annoying clunk/creak when climbing, after every ride strip down cranks, BB clean and tighten all up only for next ride the same.  The last strip down I  noticed  dropper was hard on seat post collar normally sits 5mm off. Took out seat post and greased it and sat it 5mm off collar .....silence  ever since

I had a similar issue where there was the feel of a knock/clunk, when starting to pedal hard. It would only happen on the first pedal stroke.

First I thought it was the freehub, but it turned out to be the BB, replacing the BB solved it entirely.

Have you considered exorcism?

I'm going with mech hanger or rear axle being loose.

But if that doesn't work try:

- Freehub

- Cassette tightness

- Loose spoke/s

- Chainring tightness

I had a creak on my cx bike and traced it to the rear sliding dropouts.

I had a knocking on my Rise which after 2 full strip downs (motor/battery/cables/cranks/bars/stem/saddle/seatpost/freehub/rear axle/every frame pivot bolt and bearing and then a new set of frame bearings, turned out to be the rear shock bush.

Only knocked whilst seated, never while standing and was worse when putting power down through the pedals over rough(ish) ground.

All done. The seat post sounds the ticket. Its not a suspension element. No rattle ro slip at all.

I had something similar, turns out the frame flexed enough under power to just allow the crank arm to contact the chain stay.

I had it due to the chamber on my rockshox shock being faulty

Open the door and kick it in the ghoulies... that'll stop it knocking again!

The solution is obvious. If the knocking is happening at about 2 o'clock, ride earlier or later.

I’ve had knocking noises that seemed drivetrain related turn out to be seatpost rail clamps and front axle not tight enough. Took ages to trace them…

I've got something similar going on. Had the seatpost thing years ago on another bike, but forgot until just now. I might try removing the seatpost entirely and try a short pedal like that.
