If you buy from someone on a forum and post them a cheque, how risky is it? Can they just keep your money and ignore you or is it ultimately fraud?

risky on both sides, as you can cancel the cheque after they've sent you the goods

You can't cancel a cheque after its cleared, but if its a fraudulent cheque, the bank can take the money back weeks later when someone notices the money missing from their account.

Paypal, we all moan about it, but its much safer.

In your example, you've paid for goods and not got them so I'm sure there are options with small claims court/theft etc.

Cashing a cheque and then not providing the goods is theft, money taken for a service/goods not supplied.

Hopefully you have the senders address, surely someone somewhere has to mention Bombers?

cheers guys. Not sent it yet, just about to. I guess there are times when you just have to remind yourself that most people are genuine.
