Fitting a new chain and a 34 rear cassette to my Orange Five..Its got a 32 cassette on at the moment so I am guessing the chain will have to be one or two links longer or should i keep it the same size ??

Cheers

Andy

Park tools website has a detailed section on sizing chains.

depends whether your original chain was too long/short!

Easy way to get correct length is wrap round big chain ring, wrap round large sprocket and through mech, pull chain so ends meet, then overlap, pull till the mech gets stretched forwards as far as it will go, then back off a link. This gives you how many links you need to remove.

stick it in largest chainring and sprocket

Make it as tight as you can in those sprockets

done ๐Ÿ™‚

You' ll probably be fine with leaving the chain as it is though - just check it doesnt bind in largest gears

My chosen method is round the big ring and round the largest cog, and then overlap by one link.

Cheers chaps ....I used to have three chainrings but now only run a 22 and a 32 if that makes any difference

And when I took the 44 chainring off I left the chain the same size as it used to be

If you've taken the big ring off you def. need a shorter chain - less wrap

Park tools section on chain sizing is your man.
Three methods existing chain, biggest cog and sprocket or measuring method. Never used the latter but it takes no. of teeth on chainring no. of teeth on sprocket and distance between centres then some maths stuff
