I have the above headset with no instructions. There are 4 shims included which I have no idea where they go and what their purpose is.
They are too small diameter to go anywhere but the top (I am presuming). Anybody know and can help please?

And you don't need to use all of them, they're for pre-loading the lip-seal of the top cap. Too few and your headset will feel stiff,too many and your seal won't contact properly(maybe the cause of a small number of people having problems with these headsets?).

What would the symptoms be if this was the case??
Dirt ingress past the seal, gritty water finding it's way into the bearings, the usual stuff that happens when a seal's not working as intended.Felt as stiff or "grumbling" feeling when turning the bars.
Ah - not my problem then. I tend to find that mine works a bit loose fairly regularly. It still does it even if I tighten the top cap more than I think I should.
