Is there anything worthwhile you can do? I bought my 2012 anthem secondhand 2 years ago and it was obvious that it hadn't received any maintenanceat all in it's life time.
Therefore it's probably time to show the shock some love. It seems ok but not as good as my 19 anthem.
Will changing the seals really make much difference? Does it really need to go off for a proper service at £100 plus ,or shall I buy a new shock for £200?

What shock is it? Personally, I'd look around for something that fits with the right compression and rebound tune and a warranty.

Probably worth an aircan seal kit, or even a re-lube. The damper is trickier if it's squelching - re-filling the oil can be done, but pressurising it is hard without the proper kit.

Its dead easy and pretty cheap to replace seals and give it a good clean and lube. Give it a go and see if it makes it better.

Right, I've not had one of these apart. Looking at the videos covering the service they are nearly identical to the Fox RP23 which I've done the air can service on several. Its a simple job & following the video is a relatively failsafe way of accomplishing the task.

If you're happy taking things to bits & putting them back together again I'd give it a go. Not servicing your suspension is the biggest cause of premature failure. As already mentioned if the damper is squelchy or the compression/rebound dials not working or stuck you might be better considering the alternatives.

I did the RP23 a couple of times, a few years back. Find a video on Youtube (or the SRAM website?) and follow it. It did make a big difference, changing seals and lube back then when I used to ride a lot and give the suspension a damn good thrashing.
I say follow a video, cos there is a dangerous bit where it can go POP! and you wanna be ready for that!
