Recently got a hardtail to put all the bits from my old full sus on, as a result I had to boostinate the rear hub with hopes own kit.
The problem I have now, is pushing a cassette tool on to tighten it doesn't purchase well on the lockring (from a sunrace 11speed 11-46 cassette). The teeth on the tool only engage by about 1mm, when the tool hits the new end cap for the hub. I don't want to give the lockring any torque as I'm scared of rounding it. I've tried my cheapo lifeline one, a Pedro's yoke that can go on a 1/2 inch driver, and a park tool one and all have the same problem.
Does anyone know if there are any deeper lockrings that would sit further out and give me more purchase on the tool? Or any other solution to this? I've bent the 4th gear a couple of times on the cassette and whilst straightening it with a vice works, this might be the tipping point in to a new cassette if a Shimano one would remedy this problem...
TIA
The end cap comes off before you use the tool
I tried that but the end cap seemed too fat to get out of the lockring.
I'll see if I can find a different lockring and try that instead. Thanks for your help
Sounds like a problem with your tool not the lockring. Look for Icetoolz lockring tool it's extra deep.
