Time has come to replace my trusty tricross frame. Rather than buying a new bike I was
hoping to swap everything over(drive train was new last year) but most modern tourer/commuter types are coming with brake mounts, which I don't want. I understand and appreciate the extra performance these bring but not the added expense of new brakes/wheels etc....

Can anyone recommend a frame that won't bust the bank that I may have missed? Budget is a low as possible! Has to have guard and pannier eyes...size 56cm

Is it broken? Shame you have to replace it as you say!

Oops - bit remiss of me here. Now think the frame can be salvaged. Problem is a seized and now rounded Allen bolt* (securing the broken mudguard I was trying to replace when the bolt gave in!) Anyway a pal reckons we can drill it out then he can retthread the mudguard eye...

So new frame requirement is on the back burner for the time being. But in the interim I seemed to convict myself the budget could drift out to £300ish and was toying with a Genesis Equilibrium 725 or Surly Pacer....

*tried banging in an old torq head and also hacksawing a groove for a big screwdriver but the bolt is distinctly fromage-like in its toughness...

Should be easy enough, and certainly no reason to replace a frame! Even if it doesn't come out (which it will) you could just use a p-clip for that mudguard mount. Or drill through and use a nut and bolt. Or cable ties. Or have have a new mount brazed on. Or anything, other than replacing the frame 🙄

You were going to replace a frame because you have a seized mudguard bolt?

Consumerism at its finest!

no need to ruin the thread whilst drilling it, drill small hole in centre of bolt, insert "easy out" turn on drill 🙂
