Hi
Show me your hardtail enduro bike. Looking for a new bike to build over winter. Thanks
Tom
Not sure what the definition of Enduro Hardtail is but I built this a couple of years ago.
Sturdy steel frame, 160mm fork, 2.6 tyres with inserts. Lent it to a mate as I recently bought a Nukeproof Scout.
Neither do I typed what was in my head. Then posted it and thought hmm that doesn’t make sense 😂. That’s a nice bike that mate.
An enduro hardtail is the same as a hardcore hardtail - long travel fork, slack, built for abuse.
Mine

'Only' 140mm forks, because its my trail bike, but otherwise, it has the right attributes.

What make frame is that ?

Those Nordest bikes are lovely! I saw one in the flesh in the FoD a year ago, very very nice!
That RA410 is stunning.
What bike is that ?
Naw, fanks. Might one day recover enough from injuries & covid to actually ride it 😡
Oh man fingers x for a speedy recovery
Best bike I've ever owned! Got Lyriks on it now

EDIT:

Goes downhill like a rocket! so good!
What bikes that Jon? Looks a nice thing

The Dave above probably the most capable in the stable. Steeper the better. Climbs not far off the Yellow Moxie above but way more planted through choppy trails above Dollar.
Above fun to ride. Long Moxie on 2.8 27.5.

Bought a cheapy Dave last year as we needed a spare general duties bike that could serve as a donor/receiver of bits from other bikes of me and my son. Had it in the basket for a month or so, and suddenly 1/3rd was knocked off the price of the basket. Sold.
It ain't pretty, but it sure is fun.

I’ve got a cotic bfemax, still haven’t worked out the picture upload though! It’s running 140mm to try and keep it slightly different to my transition sentinel but it rides all the same trails.
It’s probably the most fun bike I’ve ever bought! If only they did the pink one when I bought mine!
Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy second hand bike frames etc. eBay doesn’t seem to have to many options. I’m swaying to a orange p7 but keeping options over.

Stw classifieds? Post a wanted ad there.
What are you searching for on EBay?
I have an XL RSD Middlechild Ti frame that I'm toying with the idea of selling 🙂

I got an off-the-shelf Marin SQ3 but it took me ages to get comfortable with it. Stack too short, reach too short. It couldn't take a longer fork (I tried. 130mm max at 65degs) Longer fork made climbs lower-back injury-prone and unsettled in the air. BB shell is much too flexy too. Not the stiffness people say.

I'm building up a medium hardcore bike for play (frame, collar, headset,
mech hanger and seatpost £118!) 2022 model with a reinforced head tube area.
Wheelbase is 9cm shorter than the SQ3. But that means reach is 9cm shorter too. Different purpose, so we will see. This frame could take my 160mm fork though, with current head angle @ 65.5degs. Not ridden yet as have a cassette Spacer issue and waiting for some bar shims to put on a longer stem. Couldn't resist the Strictly-D bars. There's three sellers suddenly unearthed stock here.
Few years old now and I'm getting tempted by an upgrade frame! That Ra410 looks lush!
My P7. Done a few Enduro's on it, probably do better in the HT cat than my normal cat. Very capable bike and love it. Its been all over the place and ridden Les Arcs, Paganella (dolomites), La Clusaz, Beaufort, Metabief, Golfie etc. 140 coil fork. 2.6 rear tyre help make it what it is.

Production Privee Shan 27. It was one of the 1st out, with the Gulf paint job
I’m swaying towards a orange p7 looks a nice bike yours.
That p7 cost £950 new from sunset cycles end of 2018. Bloody bargain! Mind you only the headset and frame are the same lol!
Sounds like you’ve had your money worth and fun outta it.
About as Enduro as hardtails get.😂

What frame is that stu?
What size you looking for Covestiff2016?
Got an XL Production Privee Shan GT frame (29" wheel version) that I'm thinking of offloading. With more recent stretched geometry, the XL is more akin to a large. Best hardtail frame I've ever ridden, the thought and design details that went into it are superb.
It's a custom built Marino frame.

Absolute riot of a bike and worked out pretty cheap too.
I’m looking for a small but thank you for your offer.
What’s the on one hello Dave like guys ? Read a few things saying there no good at hills etc ?
Tom
My freshly built cotic bfemax, size medium with 140mm travel

Hello Dave climbs fine. It'll never climb like an XC bike but for the type of bike it is it's perfectly ok. You've just got to remember it's a big, slack, long, heavy frame but an absolute riot when pointed downhill. The steep seat tube angle helps with the climbing ability because it puts your weight more central on the bike. For context I love Hardcore hardtails and over the last few years I've had 2 Chromag Rootdowns, a Nordest Bardino, A Dartmoor Hornet and my last 26 inch bike was an Evil Soverign. I wouldn't say my current Helo Dave climbs worse than any of them.
Home made frame in pink with 140mm Pikes.
Still a bit of growing to do before I can hand it down.

Pipedream Moxie with a 160mm Lyrik.
With someone who’s good at racing I suspect it would be a great hardtail enduro bike - unfortunately my occasional moments of reasonable speed downhill never seem to coincide with the presence of stopwatches and clipboards so I think I’m done with my amateur racing career! 😉
Also although it’s so much fun as a singlespeed I’m sure it would need gears to find peak speed downhill and to manage fatigue on the transitions.

I've not done an Enduro on it (or on anything else for that matter) but I reckon a Cotic BFEMax fits the bill!
Presented here in mullet mode. I'm still wavering over whether I prefer this or full 29.
I realise you're looking for a frame to build - but there is a small titanium loco moto build in the planetx ex demo section for £1200 - for that money it might be worth stripping and rebuilding with some choice bits and selling on the parts you don't need?

(I saved over 1.2kg by just swapping out the wheels and cassette on my loco moto...)
My BTR Ranger. Love it. Insta link below.
Was also one of the bike build articles here.

Orange Riders on Facebook would be a good place for a P7 or Crush frame.

I would say my 27.5 170mm Zeb Dave with a NX groupset climbs steep switchbacks better than my Moxie Full Suspension/Cotic rocketmax test bike with a pretty good spec. Definitely climbs better on Dumyat, Menstrie Glen, Dollar Glen or the Golfie better too. Its a tractor. IMO. Its like the Norco Torrent feels sh1t slow but quicker times.
XL Hello Dave, had loads of hardtails over the years - Spooky Metalhead, Chameleon's, Bluepigs, Evil Sov etc before going back to hardtails with the Dave.
Long and stick to the ground kinda bike - difficult to manual/hop over chunder, turns amazingly well but you have to body English it and move around to weight it accordingly. I love it.

Bird Forge, steel hardtail
29’er, Lyriks up front and it’s as fast if not faster than my older 27.5 Aeris on all but the roughest terrain.
Absolutely love it. It’s everything I wanted from a new bike when upgrading from my old Soul - zippy uphill and along the flats; and a tank downhill.
I have a medium p7 (27.5) frame going. Cyan Blue. 2017 model. PM me if you like.
Great bikes and compares well with the Chromag hardtails I’ve had previously.
What’s the on one 456 steel frame like ? How much would I expect to pay for a good en secondhand ? Obviously this one is 26” but I have a few 26” good wheels kicking around.
Very dated geometry now, pretty much the opposite of ‘long, low, slack’.
I wouldn’t pay much for one, £50 I guess.
yeah just been doing abit of research and kinda thinking the same they are like my cove stiffee very dated now. what would be a good make or frame to go for nowa days im quite out of date with new stuff if im honest.

Having been there and done that as a route into MTB in the relatively recent past I personally wouldn't bother.
Wheel size considerations aside, more modern geometry is much, much better with no real downside. Plus 26" straight steerer forks aren't exactly easy to come by these days.
Alongside my BFe I have a 2008 Soul which would be similar-ish to a 456 and while I still like riding it for pootling around purposes it's frankly terrifying in comparison to the BFe on anything resembling exciting terrain.
Much better imo to spend a bit more and get something a bit better and more up to contemporary standards parts-wise.

Give us a budget?
not sure on budget to be honest looking for a secondhand frame cant afford new at the moment.
In that case I would keep riding your stiffee (fnar) and save a bit more until you can stretch to a hello Dave or similar, around £1500 or less
if on offer
At least you are used to the Cove, no point spending money to get something with no real differences , other than what’s written on the side.
Personally ime of Banshees, I if I were you should seriously consider a 2nd hand Paradox in M.
Glwt hunt 🤘
BFE Max, love it.

Not sure how Enduro this is, but it's been on eBay for ages. So cheap!

I'm not sure my knees are up to racing enduro on a hardtail but if I was going to
Itd be on one of these....

I’d get a nukeproof scout, ragley, or even something like the whyte 90 series bikes so long as they’re from 2018 onwards when they moved to progressive geometry.
All can be found cheap second hand or have models starting around £1k if buying new
Fairly old geometry now and tiny little wheels, but still rides amazingly well

What frame is this ? Is that running 26 wheels ?
@superstu Agree with Ragley. I'm tempted myself at the moment.
A Piglet is and has always been a great bike to point downhill.
Hi Tom,
I believe Pace have some of their 2021 frames on sale.
Worth considering for a build, sliding drop-outs and a long front triangle are their calling cards

What frame is this ? Is that running 26 wheels ?
Production Privee Shan and yeah, 26"
If you’re looking for a good hardtail on a budget I recommend the Calibre Line 29. They’re coming up secondhand as COVID buyers are selling them and their geo is pretty good. They tend to have pretty short seat tubes as well so can size up or down without much fuss. Line 29
I’ve been happy with my medium although a Large would probably have suited me a bit better. The geo is pretty good and they ride really nice.
I only bought it as a stopgap frame while the kids were too small for me to get out much, but now I’ve popped a 200mm Brand X dropper in it and put my old bars/stem in it I’m in no hurry to replace it until I can afford a Curtis or similar in a few years.
All my hardtails since the first have been enduro hardtails, I just didn't know it 😉
Just waiting to build up a Titus Loco Moto which looks the very thing. Big and slack, good clearance, will take a massive dropper post, and hopefully a bit of squish from the titanium
In that case I would keep riding your stiffee (fnar) and save a bit more until you can stretch to a hello Dave or similar, around £1500 or less
There's a Large on Facebook at the moment for £850, depends how tall you are and the budget.
As other said though, the pace of development between about 2010 and 2018ish just showed up how bad a lot of older bikes were. So while there are good bikes from between those days there's also a lot that doesn't really hold up in comparison to new bikes.
On the upside*, there's a gathering trickle of 2nd hand bikes bought over the last few years being sold on at more usual (50% new value) prices.
*well, it's probably preemptive of complete economic collapse, but it's an upside.
Why has nobody bought that Shan GT 29 er I linked to?
Probably cause it is overpriced considering frame only prices are f all on PPs.
Cleanish okish example mind.
I nearly bought a PP complete with better build for £550 posted.
Plus the scabby ebayer wants £100 for courier.
Complete 🤡
Because you can get something more modern for £500 less? You'd have to be huge PP fan to pay a premium for it.
Why has nobody bought that Shan GT 29 er I linked to?
As said, overpriced - hasn't even got a dropper.
Paid £250 for my Shan frame - 26" was still acceptable at the time
PP hardtails were always gorgeous and always quite short and tall. Even though they did get longer, they were always just a bit behind the curve.

This will be raced in an Enduro in a few weeks so I guess it counts
