Currently use continental gp4000 tyres 700x23

Is there a harder wearing tyre that has the performance but more durable. ?

On the whole you will always trade grip and performance for wear rate. I have found the Michelin pro 4 endurance ok, they are good for grip medium for wear but not amazingly fast. They are my mile munching tyre. The newer gp4000s is an improvement over the old one but my rear tyre never lasts that long. All these wear pretty well though compared to a proper nice tyre like a veloflex or nice Vitoria.

Gatorskins last for ages but do not expect to grip in the wet!

Conti GP4000s are the bench mark for road tyres.

You can get much nicer tyres that don't last long, or less nice tyres that last forever, but the 4000s is right in the sweet spot.

Yeah I do like the 4000's

But round here they just get eaten by shards of flint...on the country roads

Been put of Continental as I like wet weather grip. How hard wearing? How fast? Schwalbe Marathonb plus will last an age but are heavy. Durano plus are lighter and faster. I eventually settled on Durano S which are faster still, but have cut up a little more. I'll probably try Michelin next for variety, but am happy with Schwalbe.

Have had great luck with Michelin Krylion tires. Flats reduced to almost nothing despite glass- and thorn-strewn commute. I thought that performance was quite good for a 'durable' compound too at 90psi on wide-ish (23mm) rims.

Michelin Krylion were awesome tyres but are no longer available, the replacement is the Michelin Pro 4 endurance, which has more grip and better longevity. I've not done many miles on the endurance yet but so far it feels as grippy as the Krylion and certainly isn't showing any signs of cutting up.

It's also available in a range of colours if you're old skool and still run 23 width. I'm a convert to 25 (like a large portion of the peleton) and its only available in grey or black in that size

In my experience the GP4000 seemed to attract sharp objects, had more punctures than I would have had my tyres been made of paper... Maybe it's the roads round here but I binned them after 200miles of use

Gp 4 seasons

+1

Note the "Optimal for rough roads" asterisk. Save the 4000s for races.

You're not doing skids are you? I've had GP4000's last over 2000 miles with no punctures. I'd find that hard to beat from any other tyre.

Very much my experience though I have given them a slightly longer trial period.

Seem to be picking up flint after flint on the roads..

My road riding has not been hugely pleasurable of late what with the problematic rim tape saga as well.

Might try the GP 4 season or the Michelin equiv.

I run schwalbes on a couple of my bikes and yeah they are awesome but not quite what I'm looking for on this particular bike.

My commuter bike has GP4seasons on - I commute over 500 miles a month, this set have last me for 18 months, across London, with panniers.

My mile muncher tyresa are Schwalbe Blizzards, mainly because they';re cheep and OK, never had grip issues, just feel a little havier than the ultremos's.

Yeah GP4seasons (25mm) would be my choice. I'm trying Michelin Pro 4 Endurance on my hack bike at the moment and they're OK but not as much grip as my preferred tyre (Schwalbe Ultremo), have used GP4Seasons in the past though and been impressed so will switch back to them for the hack bike after the Pro 4's are dead

My Pro3s are lasting well in terms of rubber but they've developed a load of sidewall cracks... Which I'm ignoring, because I'm a skinflint but a lot of folks would say they're fit for the bin. Good tyres though in general.

Awesome tyres. Done 2000 miles on mine and haven't punctured once. Still showing no signs of wear
