I'm heading up to the Tweed Valley for a few days of riding with the wife. Will be riding at innerleithen and Glentress.
Probably just go to the hub for lunch.
Can anyone recommend anywhere for a good evening meal?

that little restaurant coffe shop next to the bike shop near the theatre/cinema is very good (is this vague enough for you?) can't remember the name
the Glentress Hotel has very good food and is reasonable for pricing too, not good for real ale though (bellhaven if you're lucky)
Been a while since I was last up there but we used to struggle finding a decent meal in Peebles
The Italian at the end of the main drag seemed to be the best bet - don't even think of going to the Indian
Tontine my pick for quality vs value - most of the other places are cheap and cheerful (Italian and Indian) or overpriced (Sunflower) oh and the Chinese down the Northgate is surprisingly good, in spite of having about 3 staff left after immigration went through recently.

What Hels said - Tontine Bistro bit - good value for the evening.
Traquair Arms for Inners - you will need to book though for both.
Also there is a very nice cafe on the High street in Inners for daytime cakeage.

Glentress Hotel again. Food is really good and far cheaper than it usually costs for the same quality here in Newcastle. Definately recommend it. Hopefully the cafe will be of similar high quality when it opens.
Indian opposite the Tontine is good but mega £££
Food at the Glentress hotel is reasonable, but be aware that it shuts early on Sundays (was shut by 8pm when we were there). We ended up eating at (I think) the Crown, which serves until 9, and were pretty impressed by both the food and the service.
Was less impressed by the snide comments from the Glentress Hotel staff the next morning when we said the food at the Crown had been good - according to them, the Glentress Hotel restaurant is about the only decent place to eat in Peebles...
Tontine is good
The Indian has always been very nice when I've visited, didn't think it was stupidly expensive (but then I am a southerner).
Sunflower was quite pleasant (went once a few years ago).
Has Tontine improved? I went for lunch a few years ago and haven't hurried back.

The two Chinese restaurants were quite nice but the one in particular was a little rough around the edges in terms of decor. Cheap though!
Get Angela at [url= http://www.i-dropoff.co.uk/ ]idropoff[/url] to bring very good home-cooked food to wherever you're staying (might not work if you're staying in a hotel I guess!)
There's a very good sit-in chippy just off the High St and a cafe (Rambler's Cafe?) tacked on to a kitchen equipment shop in Greenside which does excellent scones etc (the chef is a cyclist).
We stayed at the GT Hotel last week. We didn't eat there and the owner chucked a hissy fit when he heard we were going into town to eat instead. So, I can't comment on the restaurant there but the breakfast was decent. Poor choice of beer and guiness out a can though 🙄
We went to an Indian in Peebles, reputedly the better one. It was fine. Been to the Tontine before, it was decent.

Its the first time for the wife so we are going to do Glentress blue and see how she gets on, then shes off to do some photography bits so I'll nip along to Inners for a play.
is the Chinese that's good the lychee ? heading there riding this weekend, also any more reviews of decent places to eat ?

The delicatessan one down the other end of the high street is decent too...cant remember the name though, Colemans or something like that
Another big thumbs up for the Glentress Hotel. I stayed there as part of a 30-strong LeJog group in June and they couldn't have been more helpful. The food was fantastic too!
Perhaps my standards are low, but the Happy Valley chinese takeaway has always been decent for us. No good if anyone's hotelling it though, but good if you camp like us.
