Looks bloody lovely
Jesus wept, that looks fabulous. (personally not a fan of mullet, so off my list, but phwoooooaaarrr!)
so the new Jeht is also replacing the Rocketmax on the Cotic website as the post above shame as if it was a 29er I'd be looking at buying one.
I like that - a lot. Mullet is fine by me
That does look nice. And looks like an uninterrupted seat tube, which is what put me off buying a Cotic for my last bike.
Well that looks perfect! Everything good they had before but mullet (which I prefer for this travel range), long straight seat tube for a big dropper, more room for bottles etc, and it's at least as pretty as the old one.
Nice. If they update the flaremax in a similar fashion I'd be tempted!
I did think it might be, as the teaser photo had a Lyrik fitted which ruled out it being a FlareMAX or similar short travel bike.
The changes would make it perfect for me as my Gen1 suffers from a combination of me having short legs and the droplink pivot interfering with the cable outlet on most dropper posts, being able to fit a bottle in as a result is also a bonus on a Small frame.
Unfortunately (but not really, as I love it) I've bought a Bird Aether in the meantime but I'm still looking forward to having a good perve over it tomorrow at the show!
That Jeht looks absolutely incredible there. If I were in the market for a new bike I'd be all over that.
The new Escapade looks bloody lovely as well, that headset and the work that's gone in to making it look so good is quite something.
Very much this if you are listening Cy.Nice. If they update the flaremax in a similar fashion I'd be tempted!
Must admit when I saw the Cotic e-bike in the flesh I preferred the look of the suspension layout Vs their regular bikes.
The new rocker link makes perfect sense and frees up the front triangle for whatever people want.
As a lanky git I went with 29ers when I goty first inbred 29er. Never tried a mullet but would be interesting.
Has the Rocketmax been quietly retired? That's a shame if so, but I can see a lot of overlap between that and the Jeht if it's now at 150mm so it seems sadly logical. I loved my Rocketmax.
I'd love a 170mm super-enduro version on the new linkage as an Alps bike...
If you're used to 29ers and haven't tried a (good) mullet bike I'd really recommend you do. I hate to say something is "the best of both worlds" because it so rarely is but I think once you've got 140mm+ of travel at the back the (slightly) smaller rear wheel rides better almost all the time.
Once you're back to shorter travel or hardtails the extra smoothness of the 29" rear is that bit faster over anything lumpy but with more travel I think the lighter rear wheel and higher pivot vs axle (everyone forgets this downside of bigger wheels) cancels most of that out. And then as soon as you corner it turns in better and is more controllable and obviously it's nicer on steeeeeep stuff.
I think it says a lot that Cy @ Cotic seems so excited about mixed wheels as he's one of those tall people who you wouldn't expect to run into the usual 29" rear wheel downside!
"Has the Rocketmax been quietly retired?"
It has. There's still an awful lot of 160-180mm bikes on the market considering most people I know who do riding that suits a bike like that spend most of their time on a motorised version!
(personally not a fan of mullet
I'm curious about this; Cy's on record as saying mullet really improves the dynamics, making it quicker to change direction than a 29er and so on. What don't you like about mullet? Is it just the hassle of spares for different sized wheels, how it feels/ rides, etc?
(I have no skin in the game, don't even own a 29er, just curious)
Looks lovely and makes all the shit bits about my Rocket Max good. But I'm also in the no mullet camp. Never tried one but I just don't want 2 different wheels.
Was thinking of selling my rocket Max and maybe if it's being retired I might still get a few quid for it, but then again maybe it's now gonna be worth less......
I've been out on my 29er all day. It's fast and efficient but it doesn't handle like my mullet and isn't fun in the same way on twisty trails.
Personally I'm a big fan of the way mullets seem to corner. To the point of mulletting (sp?) a bunch of 29er bikes over the years, especially in the summer. 2.6-2.8 27.5 on the back is an absolute blast. Doesn't climb as well, but is far from terrible, and as sharkattack says, when things get twisty it's all kinda fun. I'd love to try one of these - they look absolutely awesome!

nail...head...
I’ve been waiting for this as a potential next bike. I like Cy and the brand a lot. But every time I’m in the market they do something that just stops me adding one to my shortlist. Last time it was bumping the prices of the Solaris up massively compared to the old one. This time it’s the lack of option to run full 29er - not everyone wants a mullet, just like not everyone likes a full 29er and the answer like many other brands is to give people a choice! Hope it reviews well and they continue to do well, but it’s a miss for me - a shame as the new suspension layout looks great!

Whilst I agree, in a world where fewer and fewer people are buying non-electric bikes, the move to merge the Jeht and Rocketmax into the same platform makes 100% sense. I'd imagine when they release the new Flaremax, it'll end up somewhere between the previous model and the outgoing Jeht.
If I wasn't slowly realising that I'm turning into a middle-aged dad who doesn't want to hurt himself, this would be at the top of my list. A 'Transition Spur-like' Flaremax with this look and layout would be hard to look past. I’ve just moved my BFe on, though, after finally accepting my lower back isn't built for the hardtail life anymore.

I agree with you, but surely that makes it even more important to build flexibility into Jeht sort of bikes? Pretty much all its direct competitors in the 130-150mm non e-bike space are doing this now.

I know this is NOT a good reason to not like a bike.....but it's the word 'mullet' for me!
When growing up the people I knew with a mullet were knobs. I spent some time in rural Australia in the early 90s and the bogans I met there with a mullet were just the right side of clinically brain dead. I then taught kids through the recent mullet revival...and the kids who went mullet were predictable and mostly arses.
And.....surely a mullet bike should have a 29er at the back and a 27.5 on the front...
I just don't think I could love a bike where I had to use the word mullet to describe it. It'd be a bit like having a ginger son.
Does anyone know if the action shots were taken at Steeley Quarry? It looks familiar. It's been on my list for years but I've never been there.

It's a very fair point, and they had a really neat dropout setup on the BFe that allowed for both, but unfortunately didn't play with SRAM Transmission, which would turn people off also.
Not for everyone I'm aure, but having tried a mullet on my G1 just recently, Im only seeing positives.
For me, it's the most sorted looking Cotic full suss I've seen, think it looks amazing, would definitely be on the list if I was shopping.
Damn thats nice! Always liked the Jeht and that new version ticks all the boxes.
£3k frame and shock so I'll forget about a new flaremax

What were you expecting for a boutique UK made full sus frame to cost?
My gen 4 Flaremax was £2k for frame and the cane creek shock so I wasn't expecting 50% more expensive. But that was 4 years ago and when they were made overseas. It doesn't surprise me, it just not a price I'd be willing to pay, regardless of where it's made.

What hasn't gone up in price in the last 4 years though? then take into account that its now UK made...
I do know what you are saying but I'd also try and do it through Cycle to Work if they did a flaremax like this.

As I mentioned in a recent thread about 29/mullets
I switched my 29'er Stanton FS to mullet and it's loads better - maybe partly because the BB is too high normally
My Ragley HT is absolutely spot on as a full 29
If I anything happens to the Stanton, I'm definitely going to be looking at getting a Jeht
See Orange, if you keep plodding away you too might be able to make an attractive bike. 👏
I've got a Saracen Ariel 30 sweet up as a mullet.
It came with a different linkage to convert it to full 29.
I cannot see any advantages to doing so. I'm a big fan of the way it rides. Even tho it's only 130/140mm travel and I love the way it handles.

Since 29ers became a thing I've been on them. Love my Slayer to the moon and back. Never got on the mullet hype train, never tempted.
But I had limited options when shopping for a long travel EEB so ended with a mullet Cube. It's taken me some time to get used to the bike, but I was noticing a very different and more lively ride feel, even with the added weight.
So thought I'd try a little experiment, did a ride at the local on Monday with the Slayer as a full 29er. Did some wheel swapping and chip flipping and did the same ride Wednesday as a mullet.
Does anyone want to buy a 29er Reserve rear wheel on a 240 Shimano MS hub? 🤣
Yeah, a full-29 Flare with Rocklink suspension could be lovely.
Quite a different look to the old cotic’s!
Looks really good. Cotic have repositioned themselves to the premium end, but I get why and costs etc. not a criticism but they are now in a different league.
I think the Jeht is actually reasonable vfm, but struggle with the escapade at £2k, I’m sure it’s worthwhile but it’s a lot to spend on a gravel frame. I wish them luck though.
Having seen images of the new Flaremax, I'm quite excited..... (September)
See Orange, if you keep plodding away you too might be able to make an attractive bike. 👏
Yeah, that Cotic E-Bike certainly is a looker!
Agree on the Jeht though, tidy looking bike is that. Interesting that another brand has dropped its own bestest ever suss design in favour for the tried and tested.
I know this is NOT a good reason to not like a bike.....but it's the word 'mullet' for me!
I used to think similar, or just that it was a fad. But as a short arse particularly I don't want a full 29er. To my mind, there's a still a world out there for 27.5 but in the absence of choice there, mullet it is and Cotic have explained well why it makes sense (see Cy's mailshot 9th Feb, also spoke to Sam on a demo and he described exactly what was in my head as a reason for mullet).
I'll state the obvious though, it's pricey and sadly for the amount I ride and could justify I'm out for that reason. I'm buying another British brand bike for less than the Jeht frame. No criticism of Cotic's pricing - I understand why and would love one, but I'm being realistic.
I ride 27.5 Airdrop Edit and a mullet Turbo Levo and don't notice any real difference swapping between the two apart the obvious. In the past I've hired 29'rs as that was my only option and I almost go straight on at the first bend.
I have no doubt you get used to it but they definitely don't want to turn in in the same way.
I sold my 26" Rocket due to the lack of seatpost insertion depth, that Jeht looks lovely 😍
There's going to be a limited pool of buyers for a non e bike like this , and you need to stand out else why? It's not to my taste, but maybe this is where it needs to be to be an alternative to the big brands, Atherton as a smaller brand and e bikes in general
It's funny to read all the comments (here and pinkbike) with people saying how nice this looks and compare them to what people said about the Rocket ebike. Since in the photos of the Jeht with the big bottle it looks almost identical, just with a bottle instead of a battery! MTBers are a funny old lot 🙂
I think they both look great. I don't think the super long geometry would be for me though which is a shame, the silver Jeht really does look nice!
