I've picked up a second wheelset for my Cotic Flaremax. This is my one and only bike, and I've got a 2nd set of wheels. Hope hubs and 25mm rims.
I may build them onto a gravel \ bike packing frame one day in the future, but for now I want to do longer trips on my Flaremax.
Think extended tarmac, fire roads and Welsh hills. I was originally thinking I'd put 2.2 tyre on, but I may end up going for 2.4. Will likely go for a set of Continental Dubnital's.
I'll have a chunkier set of 2.4's on my primary wheelset, the second set is for longer days where easier rolling is more of a priority.
So, 2.2 or 2.4 on Continental Dubnital's on my 25mm rim?
Tyre width/volume is a funny thing. I switched from a set of Vittoria Barzo 2.25 to 2.35's on my Procaliber as i couldn't get the narrower ones at the time and they are noticeably faster on dry hard packed trails and even on the road......might be something to do with the larger volume/circumfrence playing better with the pressure I like - no idea. They do look bigger than the size difference would suggest but are the same Graphene 2.0 casing etc.
I'd probably look for faster rolling 2.4 over a 2.2. I found for example a 2.4 mezcal was far grippier than the 2.2 version and more comfortable too.
That said, I do run 2.2 tyres, mostly out of habit though.
for the conti tyres I'd go 2.4 race casing, grip compound front and 2.4 race casing rapid compound rear.

Hasn't that fashion pretty much passed? I definitely found 35mm/2.6" too wide on a bike I was pedalling uphill and most bikes up to Enduro level seem to ship with 30mm rims and 2.4 (or maybe 2.5 maxxis) tyres. Marked tyre widths seem to include a fair bit of marketing (I reckon when stuff ends up uncompetitively heavy some manufacturers just mark it as a bit wider)

Going to go with 2.4. Was a bit unsure whether I'd be better on 2.2 for 25mm rims, but 2.4's still be fine.

Moved from 2.4s back to 2.25s.
I really like the feel of 2.4s but they just seem to spin up slower. Maybe mine were too chunky.
Might try another set of 2.4s very soon.
Any good fast hard pack recs?
