Okay.  Never been good at this.  However.  After watching how to do it online, seemingly I have managed it.  Feels rather easy, considering I have struggled so in the past.  Probably due to having just the one ring on the front.  Or I hope it is.

It'll be cable stretch, guaranteed. Even if it's AXS or Di2 it'll be cable stretch

I know.  Works perfectly still as it's in the house.  Certain to go haywire when I am 10 minutes away.

I will be to do with the cables adjusting through a little use, but I always have one gear usually that I can't get.  But that was on the big ring on front on a double.

I used to struggle but realised it had little to do with the indexing itself as now I find that whenever I fit a new tranny it's almost perfectly indexed out of the box or just a couple of turns away from perfection. What I now do is check the chain line, use the right spacers, make sure the chain length is ideal, work on the limit screws, make sure the cable is correctly router aroubd the mech (sounds obvious but it can be trickier than it should be) and optimise the b screw.

8 and 9 speed systems were peak mechanical shifting for me. The 'distance' between shifts was big enough to tolerate a lot of crap setup, cable stretch and poor routing.

Right.  As predicted, it started on the fourth gear up when riding.  Gonna give it a little shot again, if not.  Well if not, start from the beginning.  Smallest ring and barrel tightest then adjust?
