My lap button seems to have succumbed to the cannock chase mud and is very difficult to press. It also led to a load of data not being captured. Is there a safe way to clean it out and free it up?

What model?
If its and edge 205/305 you should be able to gently prise the buttons off and clean underneath.

Think I used a dry toothbrush to clean in between the button and the case. Seemed to work.

I had the same problem but it got sorted when I accidently stuck the GPS in the wash.
