So naughtily my hand slipped and pressed buy on brand new reduced Mazz 350's. They are 40mm offset. My current forks are 44mm offset. This 4mm - will it do anything to the head angle or corresponding knock on to the BB height etc? I imagine it'd shorted the overall wheelbase by a smidge and steepen(?) the HA slightly along with a slight BB raise?

We'd be talking <0.5degree on the HA and less than 5mm on the BB etc?

Which wheels? Does it take it closer or further from the 650b version of the bike?

It won't do anything to the head angle or the rest of the geometry; the steering will just feel a bit slower though. Doubt you'd notice.

Which wheels- still the 26'er as I like them although probably at somepoint I'll go back to 650b/26 or 650b. I imagine with ^ it'll make the steering just too slow on 650b/26.

more importantly you have bought them, they will be arriving and you will fit them to your bike and then ride it regardless of what people say in here. Perhaps it would be better to try without any preconception of what it might feel like.

less offset means more trail so more stability/heavier steering, also reduced wheel base, more weight on the front tyre and more toe overlap. if anything moving the forks back slightly will raise the front of the bike slightly slackening head angle.

Christ, does it not take some of the fun out of it Hora, honestly?

Constantly thinking about these details and worrying about the changes of equipment and the effects would drive me mad.

Do you ever, you know, just ride bikes without the bullshit?

I ride my bike and I like the bullshit that comes with it. Some people will just buy a full bike and ride it. Others will buy bits, tinker and swap, some people will buy and own 4-5 bikes+.

Who gives a flying **** though. Its all bikes.

I understand, I have 3 bikes and have just completed my first FS build.

But just randomly buying stuff and then spending weeks focussing on the changes those parts made rather than enjoying the bike and ride is the bit I don't get.

Surely you are constantly focussing on a preconceived idea of what each part should feel like rather than simply riding your bike and actually focussing on that ride.

Your missing what makes other people think/tick. Part of what I enjoy is tinkering, what changes make and how it effects the overall ride etc. Believe me I do enjoy my rides. I don't tend to tinker or think about anything on a descent or when I've got fantastic scenery.

So rather than a discussion-explanation about offset its become the same old stw thread-killer.
