For all the owners ...

[Closed] For all the owners of the Brand X droppers, the Bonty trigger is a great upgrade

Posted this in on wrong forum earlier and it can't be moved unfortunately. So......

I nicked these pics…. But it shows one of this triggers best features, the cable is clamped at the trigger end meaning you fit the grub screw “barrel” at the post end and do the adjusting at the trigger end.

So much easier and the trigger is much better made than the workable but wobbly oem one.

£17.50 too, so not daft money like some after market levers….So suites the “budget but great” ethos of the Brand X dropper perfectly. 😃

I drilled out my grub screw barrel with a 4.5mm bit & fit the cable nipple that end.

Also put a bit of skateboard deck tape on the lever for added grip.

I like it.

I remember you saying that mate. Actually, you might have been the first to try the bonty lever on the Brand X?

I decided to just leave the grub/barrel be and just cut the barrel of the end of the cable so there is nothing at either end and use the little grub screw/barrel as normal.

That might change if I ever drop the tiny grub screw in the future! Lol

Not tried the lever in anger yet, but might dremel a few holes, or score into the lever if it slips on my thumb. We shall see. The skateboard tape is a cunning idea though.

I run a Specialized Command IRRC dropper lever on my Brand X dropper

Works perfectly and like you say isn't as wobbly as the Brand X one

I like the idea of being able to set the cable up at the lever end rather than on the bottom of the dropper post

Good post. I’ve been looking at one of those Wolf Tooth (?) remotes for my Pro, but at £17 it’s a no brainer.

Is it I-Spec?

No bud, just has a hinged clamp. Would need major surgery for match maker/ I spec etc.

Turns out I got it from:

https://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/bontrager-drop-line-under-bar-lever.html#aW532879

But they are oos at the moment. Checked eBay in case a shop is selling on there without the daft postage?

Anyone want to confirm if there saying the brand-x ascent 1x lever is wobbly or are you talking about the 2x/3x version? As my 1x lever is fine but due to it clashing with the left hand control (nice choice of kit by the manufacturer) I need to change it to a 2x/3x version.

The race face/Easton lever is very nice as well. CRC did have them cheap but think they're all gone now.

I run the Bonty one with my KS lever, much niver than the KS thumby thing it came with. Haven't done the grip on the levers yet, but may try that as it is very smooth

Just looked on Triton and the 1x lever is only £3.95 p&p for mainland UK.

As for the original BX lever, there was a bit of play in it just this side of acceptable, but I found the clamp/pivot bolt was made of the same cheese as alloy nipples and rounded easily.  This was also acceptable when I was on Hope Tech Evo levers as I bodged it to the Shimano shifter adaptor.  However, when I got Tech 3 E4's I had to go back to the original BX clamp.

Would this work with the Giant connect dropper post?

As long as it's cable pull it should work fine.

You just might terminate the cable at a different end but that is part of the appeal of this lever.

You can adjust the cable at the bar end, rather than the dropper.

in all seriousness the bonty isn't that great over the std 1x brand x .yes its cheap but also feels it .the wolftooth is stupid money but then I have stupid money to spend and its just in another league so horses for corses

The thing is, the XL dropper cost me £92 after bc discount so spending half of that again just on a shifter makes no real sense.

In all honesty, the bonty shifter is more than good enough and I'm impressed with it for the money. 🙂

How much of an issue is it fitting the Brand-X 1x lever and Shimamo brakes?

Where does it foul?

Waiting for my post to turn up and trying to decide whether to try the Brand-X lever or just go straight to a SouthPaw or something else.

Are Wolftooth the only ones who do an i-spec b compatible lever?

Remember the south paw still has you doing the adjusting at the dropper end. One of the main reasons the bonty is worth getting.

The wolftooth does have this advantage too however...but you pay the price.

Fits the RST dropper with no mods and gets rid of the industrial conduit at the same time!
