Hi,

I have discovered that I have quite a lot of wear on the inner thigh part of my bib shorts. First of all I thought it was the consequence of them being old so I bought some new ones and this wear patch appeared again. Upon investigation of said problem it appears my legs periodically rub on the velcro wrap that goes around the seatpost on my saddlebag.

Anyone else have any experience of this?

Is the solution to have less fat thighs or to buy a saddlebag that mounts only on the rails?

You sure it's not the saddle nose causing it?

I rubbed a hole on the inside thigh of a brand new pair of nice bi shorts due to this. The “spiky” side of the Velcro tab was sticking out.

cut down the length of the tab to allow it to sit flush.

The other option would be to cover the whole thing in something a bit softer - some kind of fabric cover or a couple of wraps of electrical tape etc.

I have a proper hate of Velcro, get it in the sea.

Or lose some timber.

Sea it is.

I think we've all had it happen to us at some point. Herself ended up with a holed brand new assos bib longs (which they repaired for a very reasonable price) and a hole in her as well from an unexpectedly aggressive Velcro strap. We're both quite careful now about making sure that any Velcro fixings are secure and only as long as they need to be.

Also when you cut the velcro make sure you cut the corners rounded otherwise they can be quite sharp.
