Since this spot is so close to where I live and work now, thought i'd have a quick look after work. Any suggestions on where to park and where I should try to find. cheers

Most people park by the green tea hut at High Beach. Epping is a beast of a forest tho, it really does help a massive amount if you have someone to show you around...

How can a small patch of flat woodland be a "Beast of a forest"?

It's massive. Stretches from Walthamstow to way out beyond the M25. Have you been there?

Where you living then?

I'm not an expert on Epping (it takes years to learn!) but live and ride fairly close.

Drop me a line (email in profile) if you want.

Fit mud tyres and the first few times (unless you go with someone who knows the place) prepare to get hopelessly lost and frustrated. There are some fun bits of singletrack in there though and in the dry it can be really good fun.

I'm working in Hertford so i'll be be coming in from that direction, if anyone has the postcode for the above suggested meet place or somewhere equally as good it gives me a base to start from.

I'll be there from about 6.30 onwards and will be riding a white hardtail bike, if anyone wants to join me (or guide)

chakaping - haven't got any lights and can only be out for about an hour tonight but thanks for the invite, once the sun stays around for longer some after work rides would be good though.

qwerty - would really appreciate some help with the area so if you're not free tonight, sometime next week after I finish work would be great

Used to love riding Epping when it was dry, a right slog when clogged with mud! There's some great narrow singletrack through the trees, there was a jumpy bombhole spot up near pole hill. Used to ride up from Hackney and do a big loop up to High Beech.

You really gotta find some local knowledge though, or you'll never find the good bits and get lost for ages!

bungalistic - i can do an hours riding from EN2 9HA tonight, if that suits, it may be easier to access from Hertford for you (south on A10, round M25 rondabout, turn right at lights, follow road without turning over narrow traffic lighted bridge, up hill and enter through gates on your right).

You've got trails on your doorstep from Hertford into Broxbourne Woods.

Can do Epping another time (after sunshine to dry out the gloop) - its an hour+ there and back road ride for me, so it breaks the golden rule of riding off road for longer than it takes to get there 😉

If you fancy it just name a time

thinking about it - Pied Bull pub car park would be a better meeting point as gates may close at Forty Hall and can grab a pint at rides end 😀

(south on A10, round M25 rondabout, turn right at first traffic lights, follow road, when it bends sharp 90' left, pub is on right immediately round the corner)

well multimap reckon it'll take me about 15 mins, so I could be there earlier than half six, just look for a white bike and a red honda civic
