Ebike Motor Centre (Performance Line Bearings) Bosch gen 4 upgrade

Anyone had it done, worthwhile? Just got a brand new warranty motor. My bike was a few weeks out of warranty but Bosch gave me a new one FOC, which was great. The Bosch warranty doesn't roll over though so effectively warranty-less. I am told by my local dealer that next time I'm likely to get one at half trade price, so around £200, although obviously no guarantees. Mulling over getting the upgrades done for the same money whilst it's all new and shiny and hopefully saving on downtime

I had a Brose motor upgraded by them, very happy with everything. Great comms, speedy, and now a much improved unit with a lot better water protection!
Would recommend
Cheers!

What is the upgrade to the bosch motor?

I think they upgrade the seals and bearings. That's what they did to my Gen 4.

We now offer an upgrade for all Bosch Gen 4 motors. This includes the following:

  • Motor is disassembled and the complete crankshaft assembly removed.
  • Self-lubricating plastic crankshaft support bushes are replaced in the torque tube to stabilise crankshaft play.
  • The original torque tube sealing ring is removed and an Oilite self-lubricating bronze bush is fitted to ensure maximum crankshaft support. This stops crankshaft oscillation and aids sealing.
  • After the Oilite bush, we fit a single-lip rotary shaft seal, with the lip facing outwards to stop water ingress into the crankshaft and torque tube area. This stops rust damage to the crankshaft bearing surface, premature failure of the crankshaft support bushes, and internal damage to the printed circuit board (PCB) and all other components.
  • The left hand crankshaft bearing is replaced with a double-sealed bearing to prevent water ingress into or through this bearing.
  • Waterproof long life grease is packed between outer bearings and motor covers. This helps stop water sitting in these areas and seeping into the outer bearings.
  • We also remove the PCB and add a silicone coating to the plug assembly gasket seal.
  • Silicone gasket sealant is also added to the aluminium motor cover gasket. Water ingress into this area corrodes the gasket faces of the magnesium motor cases.
  • Finally, we treat and coat the motors’ electric socket pins to limit corrosion.

My motor has had the full upgrade treatment two years ago and has been faultless.

I'm considering sending it back for a checkup so they can see if the upgrades have worked as well as expected.

I was fortunate in having mine done a lot cheaper as it was just before the production items arrived and they used the pre production parts on my motor.

Quick edit. My motor was 2.5 years old and started making noises that sounded like knackered bearings.

Bosch would not give me a new one or even any discount on the £700 new one. According to my dealer 🤔

So for me it was worth sending it to Peter at Performance line for an estimate.

Had my Bosch gen 4 done recently. Bike just out of warranty, so I decided it was probably worth it. Excellent service with photos of the water damage before I approved the work. Hard to fault the service and the company.
