[#13534077]

So..

Im building my Orange Alpine 160 with as many components as I can from my Ragley mmmbop - it’s going ok but I have just hit a problem.
The crank seems to big to go through the BB on the Orange and when I measured the space of the BB for the Ragley the Ragley BB is bigger, roughly Ragley measures at 28mm, Orange at 24mm.

The Orange needs a new BB anyway but I was hoping the Ragley crank  (SRAM DUB) would fit but this doesn’t seem a goer. What BB and crank would I Ideally need and could I potentially reuse the front cog? I need to get a new cassette and chain anyway but all the drivetrain at the moment is SRAM SX 12 speed which I was hoping to reuse as much as as possible.

I’m guessing this would work for the crankset as the Alpine is non boost but says it works with both 142/148.

Seems a good price also - probably just need to get the BB. Would I have any compatibility issues with the shifter and derailleur being SRAM?

You just need another DUB BB. No need to change the crank. Infact, if the ragley BB is still good, use that.

The DUB crank seems too big for the Orange frame though

Don't you mean the crank is too big to go through the bottom bracket you have in the frame?

Sounds like you have a 24mm bottom bracket installed which is generally for Shimano cranks, whereas DUB is no doubt a 30mm bottom bracket

Does it just need some BB spacers to space out the BB cups a bit? 68 vs 73mm BB shell?

Yes that’s right the BB on the Orange is 24mm so the crank won’t go through - apologies I didn’t explain that very well in the first place.

Im not sure if spacers would work or not, never dealt with them before

Change it for the one in the Ragley frame then. If that BB is still good.

Wot he says ^ need the BB that matches the crank, no need to buy new cranks unless you really want to

All said already but both frames have a BSA screw in bottom bracket - you just need to unscrew the BB cups from the Ragley and screw them into the Orange.

Note - you do need to check the shell width. If the Ragley had a 68mm shell then it will have had a spacer in there, you will need to ditch the spacer for the Orange's 73mm shell.

Just swap the BB's over.

Also remember the drive side (right hand side) BB cup is left hand thread - Turn clockwise to remove.

There are usually arrows on the cup which show which way to tighten.

The chainline using that crank above would be crap!

Perfect thanks all!

I need to get a new cassette also, my wheel is an XD driver - currently on the MMMBOP is a 11-50 T 12 Speed.
Would it matter if I went 10-50 T 12 Speed at all?

SX 11-50 is a HG cassette, 10-50 (XD) won’t fit without a new freehub

So… the wheelset I bought was XD, however when I took the cassette off the wheel of the Ragley (boost wheel and I needed non boost hence the new wheelset) it was HG..whoops!

At least that is straight forward though I need the 10-50 then

10-50 will be fine as a couple of teeth either way should work no worries.

Just wanted to say a massive thanks for all the replies - got the crank.

The drivetrain is SRAM SX apart from the cassette which is XD.

I am just double checking - for an SRAM chain I need an SRAM chain-link? not any chain-link

"I am just double checking - for an SRAM chain I need an SRAM chain-link? not any chain-link"

I always thought you just needed to match the "speed" of the chain?
