My rear DT350 wheel bearings are buggered. Started stripping thinking it would be a DIY job.
YT suggests a plastic mallet should drop the spindle through (it doesn’t ) but then a vice is needed to do the other side which I don’t have.
Am I missing something or are these actually not home DIY?

DT Swiss have a fairly comprehensive help section with manuals and videos. I think that this might be what you need.
It looks like there are some special tools listed, I don't know if it's bodgeable with sockets or a general bearing press.

I vaguely remember threads on here about DT Swiss rear hubs, I think that you might need a tool to remove the ratchet ring and an awful amount of heft!
You should definitely be able to get the non drive side out with just a mallet. Support the hub and give it a proper whack!
I've never had to replace the driver side but you need a special tool and the ratchet ring is a bastard to remove apparently. But that might be ok, my 350 is 5-6000k old on my hard tail and not been changed. The full sus has an 11-12000k old 240 that's never been changed either.
I was dreading removing the drive ring on a DT rear hub.
It actually came out without a huge fight.
The method I used was to stick the tool on the end of a breaker bar that's around four foot long.
I sat on the top of the wheel/tyre with the rear of it butted up against a wall and pulled like **** on the end of the breaker bar and it came straight out with quite a bang as the thread released.
The wall stops the wheel rolling backwards and your weight holds it down on the floor.
You might not need to remove the ratchet ring on that hub as it's newer. Some you can remove the bearing without removing the ring.
For axle removal you can get a tool to insert into the side you are hitting to avoid mushrooming it. Then you can use a hammer instead of a runner mallet.
I think the only hub I've paid someone to service is a Specialized one that used the DT internals. It was that lock ring that was the issue.
When I looked (a few years back) the locking tool was about £60, the same cost as a hub service.

Yes, but you can get them for 10 quid on ebay (I did) mine wasn't difficult to remove, but I put the tool in a vice and used the whole wheel as a lever.
