Apart from voiding my frame warranty, can anyone think of a reason not to drill a hole in the down tube a few inches away from the head tube so that I can fit a stealth reverb into my Santa Cruz Chameleon frame?

The frame is three years old and aluminium. I've checked that the hose can get around the bottom bracket and into the seat tube. I have a good skill level and good tools (handyman).

Some might ask why not get a regular reverb? No flappy hose. Invisible routing. Future proof (if I'm a lucky boy I may get a new bike in a few years and I reckon most will have pre-drilled holes etc).

Thanks all

Dodgy davies.. perfect username for your plan.
Would you drill at an angle to get an elliptical hole?

Yes, on the side of the down tube.

That's a high stress point. On the seat tube I'd say no problem at all. On the down tube near the BB, probably OK, on the down tube towards the head tube not so good.

Thanks Nick, what would you think about the hole if I drilled it four or five inches away from the head tube, the Chameleon frame is heavily strengthened around the head tube? The strengthening is on the top and bottom and not the side, also the hole will only be about 5mm.
