There were a few men who made mistakes up top, so didn't push much further. Greg Minnaar for one.
Let's hope it goes ahead on Sunday!

2.5 seconds on the next best and 15/16 seconds on Seagrave and Nichole, not to mention 35 and 40 over Caribou and Hoffman. That Sir, is a stomping.

Well I'm looking forward to seeing her do it again on Sunday. Promises to be a good race. Certainly more fun than the F1 will probably be.

Both could be cancelled due to snow so we could luck out and have no racing at all this weekend!

As the results stand, that wouldn't be a huge disgrace, in my opinion, for neither Men nor Women. But, it'd be a huge shame for everyone because I still think it'll be a cracker.

I dont think it will be cancelled - there wasa discussion about this with Cathro on the downtime podcast, reckoned even if it snowed there will be an army of people lined up to carve a line through the worst stuff on Sunday morning.

They will be desperate to do absolutely everything to run this race.

Is it Gondola or Truck uplift?

I’m not sure stomped is the right phrase. She as a couple of seconds over Tracey and Tahnee isn’t looking that bad.

Ummm, the table on PB says 2.65 over Tracey, 15.945 over Tahnee, so more than "a couple of seconds"

If it snows I guess it would be difficult getting medics to any injuries, after brooks crash and subsequent evacuation delay its a big risk.
The racers will get down anything.

I think it's a case of "lets hope it happens" - next week is Portugal isn't it? Should be a bit better.

In other news the F1 was red flagged today because the weather was too poor for the Evacuation Helicopter to fly.

I don't think anyone can complain, but there's a reason why some Sports are done in summer and not now.

Having marshalled FIA events before they are conservative about this also because of the potential nature of injuries and the distance to some of the closest emergency units (some tracks are well out in the sticks). Not sure if that's a factor in Leogang, but it would be a shame if that's what stops it.

Like I say, I'm looking forward to the quali footage because I think it has the makings of a really good race. Yes, it's techy, and yes there will be choices to be made in taking a potentially riskier but much faster line and if it sticks, it'll be a winner and if it doesn't it'll be a DNF or 15 seconds to get back on the bike and get going again.

Personally I think that's one of the things that makes racing good - it's a risk/reward decision and like all those things sometimes you can push your luck and it pays and sometimes it won't.

I'm really looking forward to the race. The track looks a belter, and as for trying to out-gnar other venues, I think it's actually paying off. There are some other bonkers races (the psychosis thing seemed more gnar but probably actually isn't as techy inso far as I don't think there's as much line choice or risk/reward choices - it's more a case of just don't mess it up) but that's not what this is, IMHO (but IANADR etc)

Wow. You might want to watch Bruni's clip in slow motion a few times like I did.

It looks like the only fast way out of that stump section is to go hard inside and it's a hell of a gap when you're coming in sideways.

To be honest, I've had awesome days in the Alps in similar conditions and it might be a laugh to ride it but I can't imagine the pressure they're under. My only goal is to dick about and finish the day in the bar rather than the hospital. For them this is the biggest race of the year and there's no bottling out.

French bossing the qualifiers as usual. Looks like they were busy during lockdown.

So 5 DNS? and 8 DNF including Laurie Greenland and Brook McDonald.

Do they still get to race, or is that them done?

Protected riders only have to start, I think.

You get to race as long as you were a protected rider. Both Laurie and Brook were protected.
Start order is also unaffected.
Laurie looked fast on some splits, so it could be wild.

In the men's field the top 80 in seeding also get to race.

McDonald protected? Did his miss last year with his back, or has it just been so long since they raced.

Its incredible how literally ONE pole makes a portion of the course of bloody difficult.

The commisaire could move that pole 3 foot out and probaly completely change the whole section of course.

Be interesting to see if anyone in the race runs is tempted to go for broke and jump over the low.

Greenland dislocated his thumb, hopefuly he can still race, the steep and loose stuff suits him down to the ground.

Our Friends Killian & Maxi 30th and 37th in the juniors, don’t think they’ll be happy with that but pretty amazing achievement for a couple of local young riders.

I don’t understand why snow should stop the race. They are in a ski resort, I’m sure their medical services can cope with a light dusting of snow

Maybe. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here. Vali is clearly a really god rider, but she's ahead here because of one section in qualis. She can just as easily wipe out in the race if it's still slippery.

Just been on red bull tv and the xc race is geo-restricted

EDIT: It’s on BBC red button so as mentioned earlier, I’m guessing the DH will be the same

Well it’s not the Redbull commentary team for the XC

Why don't the BBC just piss off. They don't give a toss about MTB. Why do they have to fake an interest for this and deprive of us decent commentary?

Non-georestricted link (for the moment) for the XC:

All the listings I've seen show that RedBull have the UK rights in tandem with the BBC so we should be ok for having Warner and Claudio on the mics. If not PinkBike have the cheeky answer!

Could be the basis of a good drinking game, take a swig every time BBC commentary mentions that it's muddy or that riders need to try to stay on their bike.

Will there be a link to the Redbull commentary for the men’s race anyone?
I watched the iplayer coverage with the Redbull commentary playing through my phone...thanks Frogstomp!

I had the bbc feed from iplayer and the Redbull commentary through my phone on a Bluetooth speaker next to the telly using Frogstomp’s link.
Occasionally had to pause one or the other to sync them but it worked well.
Hopefully do the same tomorrow; DH isn’t the same without Warner.

It worked fine for me on the Apple TV Red Bull app, in case that’s useful for anyone else.

Red bull worked fine for me via Xbox for the XC. I don't think the UK is a geo restricted country, or I hope not for the DH tomorrow.

Red Bull TV Android app and Samsung TV apps both definitely geo restricted.

I watched the men’s XC live on Chromecast via iPad (Red Bull app) no probs, will throw a bit of a tantrum if I have trouble with the DH tomorrow
