Haven't found anything on this so apologies if this has been covered.

Has anyone got any advise on cutting down carbon handle bars? I've heard lots of talk that only certain blades should be used, as this can fracture the carbon.

My guess is a fine blade would be best but any advice would be great.

Thanks

have done carbon bars and stems - I used a bigger tube (part of an old aloy stem) over the top. applied bit of lube, then used a brand new junior hack saw blade/saw. used firm pressure and slow strokes and all was and is fine 🙂

You cut a stem down!?

Contrary to the above, all the advice I've seen, and how I've done it, is to use a fine, blunt blade. Put some electrical tape around the end of the bars to stop the dust getting about too much. Frankly I doubt it'll make all that much difference!

High TPI blade, junior hacksaw works well in my experience, mask off at the edge you want to cut and WEAR A FACE MASK breathing in carbon particles will certainly do you no good!

oh and, measure twice, cut once!

OOOPS - I means steerer 😳

I used the lube to reduce the dust and for heat transfer and I used a fine toothed JUNIOR hacksaw blade - low profile teeth and more teeth /cm than a normal saw blade and being new its straight and not cracked 🙂

FWIW - we breathe in carbon particles from diesel vehicles everyday 🙂
