..or is one reverse. The old style, socket head, into BB axle (square taper). Got used to X type now and forgotten.

I guess so - trying to whip the cranks off the little lads 16" wheeler, to give little sis a push along.
Non drive is reverse.

No, crank bolts are normal thread both sides. Only bottom bracket cups are reverse one side and normal the other.

Usually M8 (8mm) right hand thread.
