Not really 😉

If a cap under a helmet works as well as anything else, if not better, then why change?

Gears and other frame materials have clear advantages for most people.

oohh there is a lovely Rapha Grey Feather cap on their site. 45 squids though!! I may have to buy it if it will annoy. Dry clean only!! Very practical.

@Fettler - is that on the 100mile road from WA across to SA? if not, where is it? been pondering a ride from Adelaide to Perth if I can swing it time-wise, so very much intrigued....

And back on topic; I'm so gonna get a roadie cap and wear it under my peaked MTB helmet just to confuse the crap out of both MTB and Road riders!!! Hopefully I can find a pink tartan one to make it look even more gash...

"The term "Napoleon complex" has been used in scientific research on the phenomenon of smaller organisms acting aggressively towards larger organisms. In contrast to the many examples of larger organisms acting aggressively towards smaller organisms in the animal kingdom"

Juan in not knowing his arse from his elbow shocker and assuming the 'poor little foreigner' stereotype 😈

langy
It's the NW of WA on the way to broom.
There's lot of straight bit's of road on the big loop 😯
Best to go Perth to Adelaide cos that's the way the wind normally blows.

I can’t believe how bitchy some of you lot are about something as mundane as bike clothing, as a mostly MTB rider I own various “Clown” outfits, having crap eye’s I have to wear glasses when riding, if it’s cold I’ll wear a buff which I find to be possibly the most versatile bit of cycling clothing about.
I also ride a road bike for which I Lycra up, don’t own a cap or fancy one really, but I can see the positives for them…

I try not to make sweeping judgements based solely on peoples cycling attire, wear what you like, ride what you like, however you like, just don’t start throwing insults at those who haven’t quite got the same uniform as you…
It’s all cycling, right? apart from the Fakengers but that’s a different matter…

Jeeeeezzzee, even in winter I find my head gets too hot with a helmet on, why would I stick another layer of insulation on it?!

i've been told off by certain mountainbike magazines for appearing in photos with a cap under my helmet and asked not to do it again please, so it's definitely a fashion thing

so of course, i'll keep wearing one

Of, course there's the sub group of cap wearers who cut around the elastic leaving themselves with just a band and the peak...

Well then the obvious next step is to adopt the good old sun visor, I think it's time to start a new cycling fashion:

there's plenty of choice out there, just you wait this time next year MBR, MBUK, etc will be doing group reviews for them...

I quite fancy the Khaki one, unless theres a waterproof desert Camo one available...

Nope not at all. However due to your "history" on this very much forum I am right once again. The fact that you play the smiley/sarcasm/irony card again give me credit on that.

But that is the last post from me arguing with you as I found my time to be way too precious to be waisted with people like you. Plus it will give you an good story to show your mates at the pub "how tough you are". Have a nice day and say hello to nick for me will you.

Juan, my 'history' on this forum is to have mocked you on numerous occasions - but not because you're French, or because you're an uptight white boy, or because you're a faux-socialist but because I find your egocentric world view to be worthy of my ridicule - that's not xenophobia it's called taking the p1ss......

I used to wind up juan fairly regularly, I just ignore him now as I found him incredibly irritating.

A proud cap under helmet wearer here. Cap peak is useful in the rain and does a better job of keeping rain out of your eyes than a helmet peak IMO. The ability to flip it so it points down being the key thing there I feel

Helmet, Cap, ROFL.

I like seeing roadies with caps under there helmets, it brightens my day as laugh my ass off at just what a total bunch planks they look.
Wear a thin beanie and clip a peak on. But never ever wear a cap under your helmet its not a good look. Especially with all that lycra, don't do it.

That's true, don't do it if you are hung up on looking 'fashionable' and care what some clown in smelly, manky, oversized clothing following the latest trend thinks of you.

If seeing someone wearing a cap under their helmet makes you 'laugh your ass off' then you really do need to get out more.

Out of interest is looking like 'bunch planks' a bad thing? I don't know what 'bunch planks' are, I assume it's some sort of saw mill workers term for something that looks 'unfashionable'.

aye, that's a cracking look. I believe it's what they're all wearing in Milan this year.

I can't believe this thread contains so much concern for fashion!
Regardless of you being either a baggy-shorted hairy-legged beer-potted dude in a peaked helmet, or a proper cyclist, the average member of the public thinks you are lower than scum weirdo, and look ridiculous whatever 🙂

I take the view that the existence of this picture entitles me to where whatever I want all the time. Pray observe:

- roadie helmet
- orange-tinted sunnies
- goatee
- buff worn as cravat
- HH top
- big 3/4 baggies
- wooly socks and merrell sandals
- fingerless gloves

The bicycle is an Xtracycle cargo bike, with a bell and mudguards. I look so awesome that just looking at this picture sometimes makes women pregnant. But I wish I'd had my cap on as well. 😀

😆 This thread gets better!

Juan - lighten up a touch!

By far the best sunvisors were these:

I still have one with flashing LEDs around the rim too somewhere!!

Don't see the point of cotton under your helemt because if it get's wet it's cold.

I wear a buff (which someone is now going to tell me is made of cotton) if it's cold or if it's really really cold I wear a playboater earwig that I use kayaking in freezing water. Bit like a neoprene swimming hat, seriously warm.

Tafi is in the elite group of cooler than cool cyclists who can get away with anything. No normal human should attempt to copy the actions of a god.( interesting sidenote- When Richard Dawkins met Andrea Tafi,He wavered for a second)

Most amusing how various groups get all upset isn't it? ~If it's practical it is correct.
What does puzzle me is that so many mountain bikers ignore practical ideas. EG. Why wear 2 pairs of shorts in the summer? ie liners and baggies. Image of course. Why are baggies so flaming baggy? Image. If you go for the airy breezy idea why not just a touch looser than tight? Must admit I use a cap. In the summer when I don't use a helmet. to bloody warm with one, even in winter. Sorry chaps, lycra is generally more practical for most cycling ideas. Well beter than undone shoes, pockets full of maps, and waistbands round the arse.Hugely amused by the fuss about lycra in downhilling. Pure and stupid fashion. Typical UCI inhibit common sense.
Maybe road riders whose lids don't have peaks, they do get in the way, wear a cap to keep shit out of their eyes accepting the compromise. glasses just don't suit everybody, I find them too hot and get fed up of wiping them, which eventually scratches. Just can't get on. And this is after wearing prescription specs for 25 years before swapping to contacts.
who cares anyway?

Try one of these - I've lost count of the time I've raced in the rain in mine.

Keeps the shit out of your eyes when glasses just get covered in crap (try racing round wet Surrey lanes in the rain in a bunch of 70) and your head dry.

No peaked helmet is going to do that (and Ionos helmets don't take peaks anyway).
