I've got two rear mechs that have broken hangers still attached. I think they might be jammed?
the mechs them selves look ok and move freely - although the outer cages are bent.
how can I remove the hangers and will the mechs work ok with new cages?

Can't you just whack a hex key on either side and unscrew?

They should just unscrew. You may need to hold the dropout in a vice though

Indeedy grab drop out with vice or big pair of grips & undo the allen key holding the mech on

....and then adjust your lower limit screw.....
