Just back from Workington-Sunderland 3 day event. As some of you advised me earlier on anti-chafing cream and the possibility or otherwise of riding the Old Coach Road, I thought I'd report back.

My friend and I rode for Martin House Children's Hospice in Leeds (£1100 raised so far!). But mostly we wanted a good time and 3 days away from the kids!

We did almost all the off road options (except the one straight up Hartside - no chance of riding it, so we took the road and did it in one). Amazing how few people went off road - big burly blokes looked at us as if we were mad. We did the Old Coach Road along with a couple of groups of guys who were friendly and supportive. In fact the cameraderie all along the route was great.

Chafing was not a problem - I suspect it doesn't much matter which product you use, but they certainly help as after SDW I could barely walk (it's a much tougher ride though).

The scenery was fantastic, the roads small and quiet, the off-road sections not technical or adventurous but challenging and very beautiful. It is a great experience to cross the country and see how the geography really is. Must admit neither Workington nor Sunderland are places I'd want to spend a lot of time in, especially the former! But everything in between was great.

If you're thinking of doing it, do. It's not the hardest ride in the world but it is a great experience, we had a blast.
