Looking to do more endurance type events this year. Iv done a few of the Mtb Marathon (Merida) events, Penrith, Ruthin, Selkirk and I wondering how Builth Wells compares and is it worth the 660 mile round trip?
anybody?
Same format in different places, if you've done Ruthin, it will be similar but with South/Mid wales setting rather than North Wales. I haven't done the night ride though, and it's one of the place you can do it if you fancy it. So far Selkirk and Ruthin were my favorites.
I'm going to sign up for Builth on the SUnday. Probably do the 75Km.
Anybody know what the route tends to be like? Better on a Full Sus or a Cross bike?
Can you turn-up and ride or do you have to pre-register?
You can turn up but you pay more on the day, its an awesome route and usually very hilly so get your climbing legs on, especially as is often on grass so leg-sapping, oh and take your own provisions as it often runs out at the feedstations, otherwise brilliant
Ta. I won't bring the ss then!
I've signed up for the 50km at Ruthin.
Hope it will be fun. Its my first time and I had to enter as a veteran FFS!
It may be worth the 660 mile round trip, if you live in East Anglia...
If you thought Ruthin was worth the trip the Builth will be as well. Harder event than Ruthin more equivalent to Selkirk but no trail centre section.
did the 100km about 5-6 years ago. did selkirk 55km about 3 years ago, the course is just so much better. worth 660 mile round trip? not for me.
Cheers. Think I will get some more miles in the legs and make a decision a few days before. Still swithering about doing 10 under the ben as well.
Builth last year was a good course (both night and day events) for a Merida/CRC - they avoided the traditional route thru a forest which turns into mud after 200 riders 'cos it's been raining for two weeks (it is Wales after all). The camping facilities at the royal show ground was good as well though the 2nd one at Builth this year is at a different camp site.
10 under the ben, i would make a 660 mile round trip for. just need two others to make a trio.
Central Scotland to South Wales is a bit of a trek but Fort William is just a 2hr drive.
i'm closer to scotland than wales but have travelled to both several times. i won't say scotland is better but i've had more enjoyable times there.
Just packing the car now. Are there water points on the way around? Don't fancy filling the camelback unless I have to.
